Job Summary: The Staff Meteorologist is responsible for delivering accurate and engaging weather forecasts for our news broadcasts. This role involves analyzing meteorological data, providing severe weather coverage, engaging with viewers, collaborating with the news team, participating in educational outreach, and continuously updating knowledge on meteorology and weather technology.
Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as the on-air Staff Meteorologist, producing and delivering weather forecasts and reports during live news broadcasts and severe weather coverage.
- Provide comprehensive coverage during severe weather events, including tornadoes, thunderstorms, winter storms, etc. Stay on-air for extended periods during emergencies to keep the public informed.
- Analyze meteorological data from various sources, including satellites, radar, and computer models, to produce accurate and reliable weather forecasts.
- Prepare timely and accurate weather forecasts. Create professional, quality weather graphics.
- Must produce weather content for websites, social media, and other platforms.
- Gather analyze and interpret synoptic weather data and computer model input.
- Evaluate and interpret Doppler Radar, lightning data, and satellite cloud presentations.
- Present weather information with credible style, including immediate warnings and alerts. Assess facts, react quickly and appropriately on camera.
- Work closely with news anchors, producers, and other team members to ensure seamless integration of weather segments into news programs.
- Engage with viewers through social media, email, and community events.
- Participate in community outreach and educational programs to promote weather awareness and safety.
- Stay updated on the latest developments in meteorology and weather technology to continually enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of weather forecasts.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including driving an automobile for company business.
Job Schedule: This is a full-time position primarily working 40 hours per week. You may also be called upon at times to fill in other hours and days of the week to help cover vacations, illnesses, breaking news, severe weather, or special projects/events. This position is not eligible to work remotely.

Skills and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Earth Sciences, or related field. Related experience will be evaluated and may be substituted as years of education.
- 2-3 years of on-air experience as Meteorologist in local television preferred.
- Proficiency in using weather graphics systems, radar, satellite data, and other related weather systems necessary for the production of daily weathercasts.
- Must have a strong working knowledge of and be well versed in the Barons Weather systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex weather information in a clear and engaging manner.
- A working knowledge of severe storm structure and behavior.
- Ability to maintain professional personal appearance.
- Knowledge of personal computers and the ability to learn new systems.
- Familiarity with weather modeling software is a plus.
- Comfortable with public speaking and experienced in delivering live reports and presentations.
- Skilled in using social media platforms to engage with the audience and provide timely weather updates.
- Flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings, weekends, and during severe weather events.
- Link of work sample required.
- Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Oklahoma driver’s license and have a driving record acceptable to the company.
- Ability to perform other job-related duties as assigned.
