The Job: The Exhibit Technician is responsible for performing electrical, mechanical, electronic and aesthetic preventative and corrective maintenance on all assigned exhibits.

This is a 10-hour, 4 day/week, union-represented position (IBEW, AFL-CIO, Local #134) with regular hours and occasional overtime. The schedule for this position is Sunday - Wednesday.

Responsibilities:

  • Insure proper working order/functionality of all assigned exhibits at least twice a day
  • Inspect assigned exhibit areas daily for proper function and to identify items that are dirty or worn
  • Accurately report assigned exhibits status in the CMMS for daily down log reporting
  • Utilize the CMMSto generate new work orders and complete those that are assigned
  • Coordinate any repair activity with supervisor and other technician(s) who service the same assigned exhibits
  • Check functionality of equipment to evaluate system performance
  • Perform diagnostic testing as required for system failures and preventative maintenance
  • Perform corrective and preventative maintenance on exhibits
  • Perform light carpentry and cosmetic repair to assigned exhibits
  • Maintain cleanliness of all mechanical, electronic, electrical equipment and back of house spaces
  • Installs and dismantles temporary and permanent exhibits
  • Learns startup and shutdown procedures for all museum exhibits and substitutes for other technicians as needed
  • Write technical reports, draw schematics, etc. when required
  • Participate in Museum-sponsored training programs
  • Be stewards for overall world-class quality of the guest experience
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Two years of related experience. Certificate from college ortechnical school is a plus
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing some combination of computer, electrical, mechanical, A/V, or lighting systems and/or familiarity with light carpentry
  • Experience in live entertainment production is a plus
  • Knowledge of Microsoft OS and Office Suite
  • Ability to work on high ladders, scaffolds, and mobile elevated work platforms
  • Ability to work nights, holidays, and weekends as needed
  • Language:
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization
  • Mathematical:
    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as basic math, percentages, and area
  • Reasoning:
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagramform
  • Physical:
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear
    • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms
    • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; or smell
    • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Work Environment:
    • The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts
    • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; and vibration
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud.
The starting hourly rate for this position is $19.85/hour.
