The Job: The Summer Camp Assistant is primarily responsible for providing administrative support for the Camps team and provide overall assistance with the general flow and running of summer camps.

This is a temporary, fulltime position taking place onsite at the Museum from Monday, May 5th through Friday, August 22nd, 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with organizing camper lists for each week of summer cap (e.g., organizing camper lists, sending out camper information prior to each week of camps, etc.).
  • Support Camps Team by assisting with logistics and administrative support as needed during seasonal staff training.
  • In collaboration with the team, ensure all program-related communications are sent out to families the week prior to camp enrollment, including ongoing communications with camp families before and during camp program period.
  • Provide support to the Camp Manager and team to ensure program materials are prepared and organized in all camp spaces.
  • Assist with camper drop-off and pick-up on days of camp programs as well as lunch and recess supervision.
  • Assist Camp Manager with camp wrap-up logistics including tear-down of camp studio spaces, material inventory, organizing camper information, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GEDrequired;Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Prior experience working in educational (formal or informal) environments or programs is ideal.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, particularly in communicating with parents and caregivers in-person or over the phone.
  • Organized and comfortable with dynamic work solutions.
  • Must have experience maintaining and updating databases (e.g., Excel).
  • Must demonstrate the ability to be proactive, work independently and accomplish results in a high-level service environment.
  • Comfortable working with children and teens from culturally and linguistically diverse groups, as well as learners of varying abilities.
  • Displays integrity, patience, adaptability, flexibility, a sense of humor, enthusiasm and a commitment to serve youth.
  • Responsible, detail-oriented and hard-working.
  • Bilingual ability is a plus.
  • Microsoft Office Suite experience (beyond a beginner level) is required.
  • Language :
    • Ability to read interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, etc.
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical :
    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts.
  • Reasoning :
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concreate variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
  • Physical:
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
    • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
    • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and taste or smell.
    • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Work Environment:
    • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; outside weather conditions.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
