Infection Control Preventionist
Location: Gallup, NM 87301
Employment Type: Full-Time
Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts, with occasional evening and weekend coverage as needed.

Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Infection Control Preventionist for our Client to lead the infection prevention and control program. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating policies and procedures to prevent and control infections, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and providing education and consultation to staff and patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Management: Develop, implement, and evaluate the organization's infection prevention program, including policies and procedures for surveillance, pandemic preparedness, hand hygiene, standard precautions, employee and resident infection control education, employee health, outbreak management, and transmission-based precautions. spice.unc.edu 1aapacn.org 1
- Surveillance: Conduct ongoing, systematic collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of surveillance data to identify infections, infection risks, and communicable disease outbreaks, aiming to maintain or improve resident health status. spice.unc.edu
- Compliance: Ensure the infection control program complies with standards set by The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Indian Health Service (IHS), and Gallup Service Unit (GSU) policies.
- Education and Training: Provide infection prevention education at the time of hire, no less than annually, and when lapses in adherence occur. Act as a subject matter expert and resource within the healthcare center to residents/families, partners, providers, visitors, community, and public health regarding infection prevention and control measures, including identification of infectious disease processes. spice.unc.edu
- Collaboration: Work with other departments in performance improvement activities, maintain records, data, and correspondence pertinent to Performance Improvement and Infection Control programs, and develop and maintain spreadsheets and database applications.
Qualifications:
- Education: Degree in nursing, epidemiology, microbiology, medical technology, public health, or another healthcare science. spice.unc.edu
- Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Certified Infection Control (CIC) credential preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience related to infection prevention.
- Skills: Strong collaboration, leadership, and conflict resolution skills; excellent oral and written communication abilities; proficiency in implementing evidence-based guidelines; and knowledge in data collection and analysis, report writing, and data presentation.
