Cost Accountant
JOB DIMENSIONS:
Job Summary:
Under general supervision, in accordance with established policies, perform general cost accounting duties; establish and maintain cost standards; compile and check variances; verify cost items; maintain inventories; inform management regarding variances; and perform other related duties as assigned. Expected Hiring Range: $80,000 - $95,000 DOE

Cost Accounting Manager
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, study, and collect data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory and labor;
Analyze data collected and recording results;
Analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided, to determine effects on cost;
Analyze actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs;
Record cost information for use in controlling expenditures;
Analyze audits of costs and preparing reports;
Make estimates of new and proposed product costs;
Provide management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services;
Maintain Cost Accounting System;
Assist in month-end close of the general ledger;
Conducts physical inventories and monitors cycle count program
Reconcile finished goods inventories;
In accordance with prescribed procedures, perform general cost accounting functions;
Check manufacturing controls and verify compliance with established systems and procedures;
Work on special projects as required;
Support and assist internal department reporting requirements such as audit schedules, tax schedules and others;
Ensure timely submission, accuracy and validity of inventory, gross margin schedules to management;
Prepare government contract proposals, variance analysis, special projects, and month-end close;
Regular punctuality, attendance, and absence reporting in conformance with company policies is essential to the successful performance of this position; and
Fully comply with company rules, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to ensure safe and effective operations.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent of, but not limited to, the following:
Experience/Training/Education:
Minimum of three solid years of cost accounting in a non-repetitive manufacturing environment;
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or similar field, or equivalent experience
Computer Literate – Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office products.
Experience working with engineering and manufacturing personnel on development and analysis of cost standards; and
Additional courses in specialized accounting fields and information systems beneficial.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must have a strong cost systems background and have excellent analytical skills;
Sound understanding of accounting principles;
Ability to accurately prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports;
Knowledge of inventory costing and tracking systems;
Must be able to adapt to new and different computer programs and software to enable efficient data gathering and analysis;
Ability to research, compile, analyze and interpret data;
Good written, verbal communication, and collaborative skills;
Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with others;
Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
Detail-oriented;
Strong organizational and communication skills;
Ability to establish and update cost accounting standards; and
Must have detailed knowledge of BOM’s, routers, work orders and standard cost systems.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, filing cabinets, photocopiers and other office equipment as applicable;
Most work tasks are performed indoors where temperature is moderate and controlled by office environment systems;
Ability to work (sit and/or stand) at a desk for the majority of the workday; walking and/or standing may be required for the remainder of the work day. Length of time performing these physical requirements may vary from day to day and task to task;
Requires grasping, writing, sitting, standing, walking, repetitive motions, pulling, pushing, listening and hearing ability, and visual acuity; and
Ability to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 15 pounds; and
Ability to perform essential functions of the job, as defined;
