Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused HIM Technician II to join our Health Information Management Services Department. This role involves providing quality support services to customers, including patients, physicians, and employees. Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Possess a working knowledge of hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Guide users on Electronic Health Record (EHR) functions for amendments, corrections, and retractions.
- Process and complete release of information requests in compliance with policy.
- Assist HIM Technician III (Operations Lead) with complex release of information requests.
- Retrieve electronic medical records for internal and external requests, such as audits or reviews.
- Provide information regarding medical records via telephone in accordance with policy.
- Analyze patient charts and merge duplicate medical record numbers.
- Prepare, scan, verify, and index paper documents into the EHR system.
- Assist with biweekly physician deficiency reporting.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and confidentiality standards.
- Perform clerical, secretarial, and administrative tasks as needed.
- Support various departmental projects and goals.
- Communicate professionally with medical staff and clinic personnel.
- Practice AIDET principles: Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You.
- Adhere to safety standards and organizational expectations, including the Standards of Behavior and National Patient Safety Goals.
Job Requirements
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to organize work priorities and manage multiple tasks under time constraints.
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Typing speed of 40 WPM and proficiency with 10-key.
- Familiarity with office equipment such as fax machines, photocopiers, scanners, and microfiche readers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- RHIT certification or HIT program graduate preferred.
- 2-5 years' experience in health information strongly preferred.

- Push/Pull: Minimal force required to move record carts for up to 300 yards.
- Fine Motor Skills: High degree required for data entry and handling documents.
- Sitting: Up to 7.5 hours per day, with data entry comprising 95% of tasks.
Work Environment:
- Work is conducted indoors and subject to interruptions and occasional deadlines.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals and minimal biohazardous materials.
