Job Summary: Perform a wide variety of bench assembly and calibration operations to assemble and/or build and calibrate Constant Support and Variable Spring units.
Primary Functional Responsibilities:
Review orders as released from Shop Office in anticipation of work requirements. Ensure that any required operations, prior to assembly, are performed (i.e. galvanizing of spring/constant components). Work from operation traveler, prints, and written or oral instructions to pick required items from storage for specific supports via the use of hand trucks, forklifts and carts, and store in baskets, on skids or on dollies. Fill out and maintain current shortage sheet. Perform visual inspection to ensure materials are of proper type, size, surface finish, and that no gross physical defects are apparent. Chase and locate missing parts within production shop, paint, or Quality Control areas. Arrange details, align, make adjustments for fit, and assemble materials utilizing various hardware and fasteners. Complete assembly using required hydraulic presses, hoists, cranes, jib booms, holding fixtures, vices, metal cutting band saws, wire brushes (both manual and air electric driven), power drills, rivet guns, and typical mechanic’s hand tools. Use test assembly bench, fixtures, hand tools and hydraulic presses to perform cold setting operation. Drill form tags, and rivet scales and/or ID tags to exact location on spring casing as required. Attach hot and cold markers (use metal tacks where deemed necessary) and select and install proper travel stop components based upon specified loads. Band strap travel stops in place, install travel stop removal instruction tags onto unit as required. Perform rework as necessary such as (but not limited to) retapping, redrilling and /or grinding to ensure proper unit performance. Stamp permanent ID on unit using punch type stamping equipment. Maintain work area as well as machines, tools, and equipment to meet program requirements. Use cranes, dollies and carts to obtain and return material to and from storage area and move completed job to next operation. Perform all job functions in accordance with established operating procedures. Identify and assist in remediation of any and all safety hazards in the work place. Perform other duties as directed by Team Leader/Supervisor
Minimum Requirements:
Ability to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to use measuring equipment such as measuring tapes, verniers and calipers, and read gauges. Must be able to be certified to operate a forklift and use hoists to pick up heavy parts. General computer skills
