Groome's HRSG division provides a variety of services to the natural gas-fired turbine industry, primarily to emissions reducing exhaust components and components within heat recovery steam generators. Our services are designed to maximize overall system performance and minimize future downtime.
Groome's Surface Preparation and Coatings division provides services in various applications from large steel structures to complex concrete floors. We boast long-standing affiliations with both the Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC) and National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE).

Job Description:
Groome's growing Mechanical division is looking for an experienced structural engineer, preferably from a heavy industry. Projects range from large scale new construction to minor retrofits and repairs.
Responsibilities:
- Detailed review of quote and bid requests including mechanical drawings, pictures, and field notes/measurements.
- Design and analyze new and existing structures using engineering software and manual calculations.
- Ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Conduct onsite inspections, document existing conditions, perform field testing, photographing, create hand-sketches, create formal drawings and observe and track work progress.
- Record accurate field measurements and perform calculations throughout the project duration.
- Perform quantity calculations (take-offs).
- Perform cost estimations and write specifications for quotes, bids, and reports.
- Assist in building/maintaining schedule documents (P6, MS Project, Excel) and preparation of work plans.
- Technical lead on projects, coordinate with sales and operation's team to ensure proper project planning and performance.
- Communicate project status and proactively address any issues or discrepancies, escalating unresolved matters as needed.
- Coordinate with QA/QC manager regarding project execution and report on successes and potential areas of improvement.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and drafters.
- Maintain organized records, files, drawings, data and other documentation for easy accessibility and future reference.
- Stay current with job knowledge and industry trends through educational workshops and professional publications.
- Occasionally attend bid walks, trade shows, and other events as a technical resource.
Qualifications:
- 4 years of experience in structural engineering with a focus in repair and modifications.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering or similar from ABET university.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) credential is required for consideration.
- Proficiency in software such as RISA, Tedds, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, P6, MS Project, and MS Office
- Valid U.S. drivers license.
- Willingness to travel up to 50%
- Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and late hours, when necessary.
- Must have general computer skills to include email and other business applications.
- Must have the ability to report to work on time and when scheduled.
- Must have the ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
