Equipment operator / Pipelayer / Laborer play crucial roles in maintaining and managing utility systems and infrastructure on construction sites, industrial facilities, or commercial properties. This position involves various tasks related to site utilities, including installation, repair, and maintenance of water, sewer, and storm water systems. The Site Utility Crew ensures that utility systems operate efficiently and safely, contributing to the overall success of construction projects or facility operations.

Responsibilities:

Utility Installation: Install and connect water, sewer, storm water systems according to blueprints, specifications, and safety standards.

Maintenance: Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs of utility systems to prevent breakdowns or leaks.

Excavation: Safely excavate trenches and holes for utility line installation, ensuring compliance with local regulations.

Equipment Operation: Operate heavy machinery and equipment, such as backhoes, trenchers, and skid steers, to assist in utility work.

Safety: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, wear appropriate protective gear, and promote a culture of safety on the job site.

Documentation: Maintain records of work performed, including daily logs, equipment usage, and any issues encountered during utility work.

Teamwork: Collaborate with other crew members, contractors, and supervisors to ensure efficient workflow and project completion.

Problem Solving: Identify and troubleshoot utility system issues, making necessary repairs or adjustments as needed.

Compliance: Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, building codes, and safety standards throughout utility projects.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Previous experience in utility work, construction, or a related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of utility systems, including water, sewer, storm water.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Willingness to follow safety protocols and guidelines.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in operating construction machinery and tools.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Strong communication skills for effective teamwork and reporting.
  • Ability to read blueprints and construction plans is a plus.
  • Knowledge of local building codes and regulations related to utility work.

Working Conditions:

  • Site Utility Crew members typically work outdoors on construction sites, industrial facilities, or commercial properties.
  • The job may involve exposure to various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain.
  • Physical demands include lifting heavy objects, digging trenches, and operating machinery.
  • Flexible working hours may be required, depending on project deadlines and scheduling.
