Job Description
Grounds For Sculpture (GFS) is at the beginning of a long path toward building a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive (EDI) institution. We are looking for individuals, at all levels of the institution, who are interested in joining us on this journey of intentionality and public accountability. This path broadens our workforce (board, staff, volunteers), expands our artist selection and acquisition practice as well as strengthens our internal and external communication systems, networks and norms. We are looking for motivated individuals with a passion in art and/or horticulture to participate in our internship program. This internship opportunity will be offered as a 10-week program, and you will become an integral part of our education department. The intern will work onsite, for roughly 8-10 hours per week and will be provided hands on training. Through many educational opportunities the intern will gain additional skills, knowledge and experiences that will help them grow both individually and professionally. The internship program is open to all individuals regardless of educational background but who more importantly have a strong interest in the fields of art and/or horticulture. The School and Group Visit intern will develop, and support Ground for Sculpture's (GFS) PreK-12 school programs, group visits, and tours with goals of developing and experimenting with new tour types that increase access to and understanding of collections, exhibitions, and horticulture to improve the visitor experience. The primary duties of the intern will be to train with and support Education Managers, Administrators, Museum Educators, Docents, and GFS staff to explore offerings and processes for school and private groups in accessible and inquiry-based learning. Interns will pilot, experiment with, and support the new STEAM and Wellness curriculum for school engagement, ensuring the common core standards for New Jersey are met. Interns should have an interest in all age groups, including PreK-12th grade schools, Homeschools, and Adults. The ideal candidate should have an interest in learning more about informal education, the visitor experience, and group sales. A desire to work in partnership with or within schools is required. Education Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) practice, strong written and communication skills, a collaborative working style, and a self-starter are needed. Responsibilities * Support the Education Managers, Museum Educators, Administration, Docents and GFS staff with PreK-12 programs, group visits, and tours. * Support the new STEAM and Wellness initiative. * Composes interdepartmental communications to notify Grounds For Sculpture teams of scheduled events. * Assist with the facilitation of an array of informal education offerings to PreK-12 students. * Performs special projects as assigned by the Manager of School and Group Visits. * Assist with the facilitation of an array of education offerings to PreK-12 students Qualifications * Interest or experience in the fields of STEAM * Meticulous organization and planning skills desired. * Self-motivated, highly organized, and creative team player * Outstanding people skills, and comfort interacting and working with individuals of all ages and backgrounds. * Demonstrate respect and inclusiveness to all employees, embracing differences * Excellent customer service skills - flexible and handles stressful situations well. * Ability to prioritize and work both collaboratively and independently. * Knowledge of art materials and techniques a plus GFS is stronger for the diverse ideas, lived experiences, passions and skill sets of our staff.
