JOB SUMMARY
The Groundsperson reports to the Grounds Foreman and performs skilled grounds work in the development and care of district grounds and to operate a variety of grounds maintenance equipment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary in consultation with the employee(s) involved.
- Performs landscape maintenance such as: mowing, weed whipping, weeding and mulching beds, edging, pruning, and tree removal
- Performs maintenance on artificial turf fields
- Lays out lines and prepares fields for sports events including football, baseball, softball, track, soccer, and tennis
- Performs asphalt repairs, playground equipment maintenance, fence repair, and irrigation maintenance
- Operates equipment including dump trucks, pickups, sweepers, chainsaws, mowers, tractors with implements, and a wide variety of hand tools
- Operates, maintains, and repairs irrigation systems
- Performs seasonal maintenance including snow and ice removal and sanding
- Is familiar with and able to practice Integrated Pest Management
- Performs periodic safety checks on playground toys and repairs
- Assists in the maintenance of storm drain systems
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Grounds Foreman
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Grounds Foreman.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position requires the ability to work outside in all weather; to stand, kneel, walk over uneven ground, or remain seated on equipment frequently during an eight-hour shift; to lift and carry up to 60 pounds unassisted; to frequently reach above or below shoulder height; to handle a variety of tools and operate controls requiring manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; and involves exposure to dust, fumes, and noise and vibration from the operation of equipment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Preferred Experience
Two to five years experience in grounds maintenance is preferred.

c. Apply knowledge of fertilizer and herbicide application, weed species and weed control.
4. Ability to Perform Basic Grounds Maintenance
a. Install and maintain drainage systems.
b. Apply knowledge of building materials such as concrete and asphalt.
c. Repair and maintain retaining walls, chain-link fences, and playground equipment.
d. Prioritize and schedule work independently.
5. Ability to Safely Operate a Variety of Equipment
a. Safely operate gas/electric-powered landscape maintenance equipment, such as lawn mowers, edgers, trimmers, blowers, tillers and chain saws.
b. Safely operate power tools and machines such as pumps, jack hammers, and compactors.
c. Appropriately and safely operate a variety of manual tools and implements, such as field liners, spreaders, hoes, shovels, picks, hand saws and pruning shears.
Licenses/Special Requirements
Must possess or be able to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License within six months of employment and be willing to obtain a Washington Public Operator License for weed control.
SALARY $77,689 Annually. Salary is based upon the current 2024-25 GROUNDS Salary Schedule Salary (Level I); placement on the salary schedule will be determined by Human Resources DOE. FLSA Non-Exempt.
WORK YEAR 8.0 hours per day, 260 days per year.
