Part-Time GIS Specialist
Groundwater & Environmental Services, Inc. (GES), an industry leader with a reputation for excellence in providing environmental consulting, engineering, compliance, and technical field services to clients in diverse market sectors, seeks a part-time GIS Specialist to apply technical knowledge to challenging environmental remediation projects for our Blacksburg, VA office. This part-time position is expected to be 20-23 hours a week.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Uses ArcGIS Pro and ESRI software to develop various drawings and geospatial analysis (e.g., maps, site plans, contours, Thiessen polygons, and other environmental data visualizations).
- Uses GIS data, features and software to edit existing figures.
- Uses Python, R, SQL, and Arcade to program solutions of limited scope and complexity.
- Completes finished drawings, maps, and graphics for submittals to clients.
- Develops data sets for use in drawings for importing into Excel, databases, etc., and performs QA/QC on data sets for accuracy.
- Checks drawings for completeness and accuracy.
Skills & Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent. An Associate’s Degree or higher in Geospatial Sciences, GIS Certification, or related is a plus!
- 3 years of related experience
- Knowledge of ArcGIS Pro 3 is REQUIRED and FAMILIARITY with database tools (e.g., MS Access, EQuIS), AutoCAD 2023, and Civil 3D is a plus.
- Familiarity with surveyed drawings and working with coordinate projection systems a plus.
- Basic working knowledge of MS Windows software (Word and Excel).
- Must be a self-directed, problem solver capable of successfully managing competing priorities.
- Comfortable working and communicating in a team environment with remote members.
