The Fabrication Technician is responsible for performing various tasks related to the fabrication, assembly, and production of components or products. Fabrication Technicians work in manufacturing settings, collaborating with team members to achieve production goals and maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operate fabrication machinery, such as welding equipment, cutting tools, or CNC machines, to fabricate, shape, or assemble metal, plastic, or composite materials according to engineering drawings or production specifications.
Perform precision measurements, cuts, and welds to ensure components or products meet dimensional tolerances and quality standards.
Prepare materials for fabrication, including cutting, grinding, and shaping raw materials or semi-finished components to the required specifications.
Handle and transport materials safely using forklifts, cranes, or other material handling equipment, ensuring proper storage, organization, and inventory control.
Inspect fabricated parts or products for defects, irregularities, or deviations from specifications, using precision measuring instruments or visual inspection techniques.
Identify and troubleshoot quality issues, making adjustments to machinery or processes as needed to ensure compliance with quality standards and production requirements.
Adhere to safety protocols, procedures, and regulations to maintain a safe working environment, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), handling hazardous materials, and following lockout/tagout procedures.
Participate in safety training programs, conduct safety audits, and report any safety hazards or incidents to supervisors or safety officers.
Collaborate with team members, engineers, and production supervisors to coordinate workflow, prioritize tasks, and resolve production challenges in a timely and efficient manner.
Communicate effectively with colleagues, providing updates on work progress, sharing knowledge or expertise, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, or technical specifications.
Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity, with the ability to use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments accurately.
Attention to detail and quality orientation, with a commitment to producing high-quality work and adhering to production standards and specifications.
Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and work in various positions (standing, kneeling, bending) in a manufacturing environment.
Problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, adjust settings, and make necessary repairs or adjustments to maintain production uptime.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED
Knowledge of fabrication techniques, processes, and materials, including welding, cutting, forming, and finishing methods.
Familiarity with fabrication machinery and equipment, such as welding machines, shears, brakes, saws, and CNC machining centers.
Basic understanding of metallurgy, material properties, and heat treatment processes relevant to metal fabrication.
Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced production environment and adapt to changing priorities or production demands.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Vocational training, apprenticeship, or certification in welding, fabrication, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in metal fabrication, manufacturing, or a related industry, with hands-on experience operating fabrication machinery and tools.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Welding certifications (e.g., AWS, ASME) or certifications in specific fabrication techniques or equipment operation may be beneficial.
