Job Scope
The Carpenter will construct, erect, install, and repair wooden and non-wood fixtures, structures, and forms for use in a variety of construction projects.
Job responsibilities include a but are not limited to the following
- Organizes, measures, and marks materials in accordance with blueprints or supervisory directives to create a predetermined layout
- Cuts and shapes structures, forms, or other fixtures from wood, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall using hand tools, machines, or power saws
- Installs foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs using materials such as: wood, steel, metal, concrete, plastics, and composites of multiple materials (Uses various hand and power tools to securely build assigned projects)
- Fits and installs window frames, doors, door frames, door hardware, interior and exterior trim using a carpenter’s level, plumb bob, and laser levels (Joins materials with the most appropriate nail, screw, staple, or adhesive)
- Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground levels
- Studies specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required
- Ensures the accuracy of work by checking completed projects with tools such as levels, surveying equipment, or framing squares; corrects problems as needed
- Follows established safety rules and regulations and maintaining a safe and clean environment
- Builds or repairs cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, hand tools, or power tools
- Assembles and fastens materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue
- Removes damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace, using hand tools
- Inspects ceiling or floor tiles, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures
Requirements
- Must possess 5 years of carpentry experience
- Must have a working knowledge of construction skilled trades
- Must be willing and able to follow ALL safety precautions with appropriate PPE, follow company safety protocols, environmental, and OSHA safety best practices
- Ability to understand directions and read blueprints
- Ability to properly care for and use tools of the trade
- Thorough understanding of carpentry principles and methods
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and team members
- Pre-employment drug screening required - positive results of any illegal substance, offer of employment may be retracted
- Must have a valid US driver's License with at least 3 years of experience- approvals and final decision is subjected to our automobile insurance carrier's criteria
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling
- Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds unassisted
- Must be able to safely work with sharp tools or power equipment
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains
- Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination
