Requirements:
(1) At least 18 years of age;
(2) high school diploma or equivalent; and
(3) one of the following:
(A) Bachelor’s degree or a higher degree in early childhood, child development, or a related academic discipline from a regionally accredited college or university and three months of experience in early childhood education providing direct care and supervision to children;
(B) bachelor’s degree in a non-related academic discipline from a regionally accredited college or university and any of the following options:
(i) Six months of experience in early childhood education providing direct care and supervision to children;
(ii) twelve semester hours of academic study or equivalent training in early childhood, child development, or a related academic discipline;
(iii) child development associate credential; or
(iv) technical certificate or diploma in early childhood;
(C) associate degree in early childhood, child development, or a related academic discipline from a regionally accredited college or university and six months of experience in early childhood education providing direct care and supervision to children;
(D) twelve semester hours of academic study or equivalent training in early childhood, child development, or a related academic discipline from a regionally accredited college or university and any of the following options:
(i) Six months of experience in early childhood education providing direct care and supervision to children;
(ii) child development associate credential; or
(iii) technical certificate or diploma in early childhood;
(E) child development associate credential and one year of experience in early childhood education providing direct care and supervision to children; or
(F) six years of experience in early childhood education providing direct care and supervision to children or four years of experience in a
Additional Information:
(1) Each staff member counted in the staff-child ratio, each volunteer counted in the staff-child ratio, and each program director shall obtain certification in pediatric first aid and in pediatric CPR as specified in this subsection either before the date of employment or volunteering or not later than 30 calendar days after the date of employment or volunteering.
(2) Each individual who is required to obtain the certifications shall maintain current certifications.
(4) Each program director and each staff member designated to administer medications shall complete the training in medication administration.
Child Care Program Director Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for developing curriculum in accordance with the center's values and philosophical approach and reviews teacher lesson plans.
- Assists with talent acquisition, conducting interviews and reviewing the qualifications of all new staff before hiring the most qualified applicants for teaching or assistant teaching staff positions.
- Assists in recruiting and training of newly acquired staff.
- Manages the work schedules of teaching staff.
- Supervises and leads teaching staff as they adhere to company standards.
- Provides feedback for teaching staff on their performance in the classroom and sets short and long term goals.
- Organizes special events, community outreach and holidays.
- Meets with teachers and parents to keep parents up to date on their child’s progress and development.
- Brainstorms with teaching staff to find ways to address any behavioral or learning problems.
- Ensures that the facility and staff adheres to all state and local regulations.
- Keeps daily attendance of students, documents behavioral concerns, logs meals, and provides operations manager, parents and/or the state (as required) with regular feedback.
- Keeps accurate health and safety records and files on employees, children, and activities.
- Assists with tours and enrollment process, acticipating vacancies and ensuring facilty is at 100% capacity at all times.
- Orders and purchases teaching materials including toys, videos, books, educational aids, cleaning supplies, food, and first aid supplies.
- Responsible for financial management, payroll, budgets, payments and billing.
- Supports menu planning and ensures proper food handling and CACFP record keeping.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must possess exceptional interpersonal skills with children and adults.
- Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills in order to communicate with parents, staff, and children.
- Must have strong leadership skills to inspire respect from young children.
- Must be organized and have a strong business sense.
- Knowledgeable about the latest trends and techniques in education and child-rearing, including discipline, encouragement, and communication.
- Familiarity with theories and practices of behavioral therapy, child development, and parent-child relationships.
- Must have an appropriate code of ethics for working with young children.
- Must be flexible and able to react appropriately to changing circumstances.
- Must have strong crisis management abilities and be able to maintain a cool composure in times of crisis.
- Must have strong time management skills.
- Must possess excellent customer service.
- Must be professional and provide a public face for the childcare facility.
