Position Title: Shiloh Farm Assistant Manager

Overview: Grow Pittsburgh is seeking a Farm Assistant Manager for our sites at Shiloh Farm, The Frick Art & Historical Center Greenhouse, and Garden Dreams for the 2025 season. In early spring, the Farm Assistant Manager will be focused on preparing the farm for the season as well as occasional help with our annual seedling sale. After the conclusion of the seedling sale, the assistant will work in the vegetable gardens and help with weekly sales through our farm stand. The assistant will also be involved with community engagement and education by working with workshares, tours, and volunteers, including youth and adults.
Timeline: This is an 8 month long position starting March 4th, 2025 and ending on November 8th, 2025
Hours: 30 hours/week, including occasional special events on evenings or weekends.
Schedule: Tuesday-Thursday: 8-4, Thursday shifts to noon - 7pm during farm stand season (May-October)
Additional flexible 6 hours on Monday or Friday depending on harvesting and watering needs.

Compensation: $17.50/hour, paid sick time, mileage reimbursement, professional development budget, healthcare stipend and membership with the Garden Resource Center.
Responsibilities:
Vegetable and Fruit Production:
This position assists with full season vegetable and seedling production at Shiloh Farm and Frick Greenhouse. They will be responsible for implementing the Shiloh Farm crop plan, utilizing Integrated Pest Management strategies and applying certified organic products to control pests and diseases on the farm. The assistant manager will also, along with the Farm Manager, lead harvest days and wash and pack produce for our weekly farm stand, supervising and providing experiential education to apprentices and other volunteers
Market:
This position will be responsible for setting up and staffing our weekly on-site farm stand, with the assistance of the farm stand coordinator and occasional youth and volunteers.
The Assistant Manager will assist the farm stand coordinator in unloading and inventorying produce at the Garden Dreams walk-in cooler in preparation for market
Education:
Leading volunteers, tours, and youth programming at Shiloh as necessary. They may also lead workshops for the general public on gardening topics of their interest.
Requirements: Applicants should have a strong interest in sustainable and organic agriculture, vegetable gardening and urban farming. One season of previous growing experience is required and experience in volunteer coordination or education is preferred. Those interested should be self-motivated, punctual and should enjoy working with people. They should also possess a strong work ethic, ability to work in all weather conditions, be detail oriented and work efficiently. This position may be on their feet for up to 8 hours per day and may need to lift objects up to 40 lbs repeatedly. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and have transportation to work sites.
