Afterschool Behavior Specialist
Part-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

Reports to : Afterschool Site Lead
Summary Description : The Afterschool Behavior Specialist plays a key role in creating a supportive and engaging environment for scholars in the afterschool program. This position partners closely with the day school Behavioral Specialist to align strategies and interventions while becoming familiar with the afterschool caseload. The Behavior Specialist provides direct support to scholars, fostering social-emotional learning, enrichment activities, and restorative practices to build a strong afterschool culture that promotes positive behavior and academic success.
Major Responsibilities and Duties :
- Supervise identified scholars to ensure a safe, inclusive, and nurturing afterschool environment.
- Partner with the day school Behavioral Specialist to align behavior intervention strategies and support scholar development across the school day and afterschool hours.
- Work collaboratively with afterschool staff to implement positive behavior supports and intervention plans that encourage social-emotional growth.
- Support enrichment activities by integrating behavioral strategies that foster engagement, teamwork, and self-regulation.
- Utilize restorative practices to address conflicts, facilitate peer mediation sessions, and guide scholars in resolving issues constructively.
- Assist afterschool educators in defining, measuring, and reinforcing positive behaviors through structured support and modeling.
- Engage families by providing strategies and tools to support their childs behavior development at home.
- Work with scholars individually and in small groups to provide targeted behavioral support that is explicit, intensive, and developmentally appropriate.
- Conduct ongoing assessments to track scholar progress and adjust interventions accordingly.
- Maintain accurate documentation and reports of behavioral interventions, observations, and progress.
- Attend professional development opportunities to maintain a high level of skill and knowledge on current research and best practices in behavior support, social-emotional learning, and youth development.
- Facilitate professional development sessions for afterschool staff to enhance their skills in behavior management strategies, social-emotional learning techniques, and restorative approaches.
- Organize and schedule time commitments to meet demands of the job
- Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures; report all unsafe activities to supervisor and / or Human Resources

Work Hours : Monday - Friday 12 : 30pm-6 : 30pm.
