The Early Literacy Instructional Coach uses their deep understanding of the principles of Science of Reading to build towards Grow Public Schools’ vision that all scholars are reading on or above grade level by second grade. The Coach will work collaboratively with the Director of Learning and Innovation to plan, facilitate, and coordinate the implementation of standards-based and research-driven instruction in early literacy. The Coach will provide staff with resources, support them in implementing curriculum and interventions, and guide their instructional practices in reading through mentoring, modeling, and coaching.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops, recommends, and implements goals and objectives that improves literacy rates.
- Researches and coaches effective and evidence-based instructional strategies and intervention programs to improve learning for all students.
- Coordinate and facilitate nationally normed assessments for early literacy skills. Facilitates the use of assessment data to improve student literacy outcomes. Implements a TK-2 literacy assessment calendar across the network using screening and diagnostic tools
- Assists with the planning, implementation and analysis of student achievement data.
- Support teachers with coaching in the development of the science of reading and research-based reading instruction practices. Provides professional learning to K-2 teachers on California Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts across the curriculum and the Literacy/ELA/ELD framework.
- Leads the implementation of appropriate Common Core State Standards content; ELA/ELD Framework, designated and integrated ELD, reading foundations to include phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and writing; and network- adopted curriculum.
- Observe K-2 teachers and provide feedback as it pertains to early literacy instruction and program implementation
- Facilitates professional development in partnership with other Instructional Leadership Team members.
- Other related duties as assigned by Chief Academic Officer

- A passion for bettering historically underrepresented communities and increasing the instructional rigor and practice of teaching faculty.
- Recognition as an exemplary classroom teacher and excellent professional role model.
- Deep understanding of the principles of the science of reading, reading assessments and early childhood literacy programs.
- Experience working linguistically and ethnically diverse students.
- Demonstrated commitment to personal professional growth and learning.
- Knowledge of, or experience with teacher growth and development.
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills, strong subject matter competence and English language development strategies.
Required Education and Experience:
- Valid clear CA credential or commensurate experience leading teachers
- Master’s degree in Education or related field preferred
- A minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience
- Experience teaching early elementary (TK-2) reading
- Ability to demonstrate development and delivery of high quality instructional professional development to TK-2 teaching faculty
