Marketing and Sales Associate
Growing Community Media (GCM) is seeking an enthusiastic marketing and sales professional who understands the value of local markets and the power of community journalism to connect with those audiences.
This is a full-time position that reports to the executive director. The marketing and sales representative will cover a $1.2 million sales territory along with one other seller.
GCM is the nonprofit publisher of four online and in-print news titles: Wednesday Journal, Austin Weekly News, Riverside-Brookfield Landmark, and Forest Park Review. We are a small, tight knit and mission focused group looking for a talented marketer and seller to join our team.
Responsibilities
- Create marketing opportunities for businesses and nonprofits across GCM’s four publications, using digital, print, and event platforms
- Work collaboratively with design, digital, development, and editorial teams to create new ways to connect advertisers with readers
- Build relationships with individual clients that are trusting, creative, productive, and resilient
- Strengthen relationships with existing customers while actively identifying and pursuing new clients
- Lead special projects and special sections
- Develop strategies and products to build revenue in essential advertising categories
- Participate in marketing and sales training related to community journalism and stay curious about the evolving media landscape
- Take an active role in marketing management, including scheduling projects, creating promotional materials, and offering input on sales projections
- Track monthly, quarterly, and year-to-date revenue goals
- Maintain a prospect list and an active pipeline of potential clients
- Represent and communicate GCM’s mission and values as a nonprofit newsroom to clients and community partners
Work Environment
This is a hybrid role based primarily at GCM’s Oak Park offices. When not attending client meetings or working in the territory, employees are expected to work from the office at least three days per week.
Qualifications
- Sales experience is a plus, though media sales experience is not required
- A creative and enthusiastic approach to marketing
- Proactive problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues across the organization
Compensation and Benefits
- This is a commission-based position with a guaranteed minimum annual compensation of $48,000
- Eligible for health, dental, vision insurance, and 401(k) plan
