What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Counselor position at Growing Places?
We are currently seeking adult & junior counselors (16 ) that have experience working with or a desire to work with elementary students in a nature based, enrichment focused day camp. Camp Cowabunga is housed at Moharimet Elementary (11 Lee Road) in Madbury. This would be a great opportunity for an education/psychology/human development major or a high school student looking for hands-on experience in the education field. Hours of operation are 8-4:30.
Duties
As a camp counselor you will supervise elementary students ages 5-10 as they go about day to day activities of a summer day camp. Some of the the duties are:
- Helping supervise campers on the playground and during station activities
- Making sure they are safe and accounted for on field trips while partnering with another counselor
- Assisting them with pre-planned curriculum activities that include art, STEM, nature exploration, and gross motor activities and ensuring they have the correct supplies to engage in the activity if desired
- Cleaning tables and floors after these activities (because fun things can sometimes get messy!)
- Applying sunscreen and helping campers get ready to enjoy the great outdoors
- And the most important, making connections with elementary level students and furthering your knowledge of the field of education through hands-on experience!
Requirements
Must be 16 years of age or older
CPR/first aid certified or willing to become
Nice To Haves
Experience with school age children
9 credits in ECE or elementary education
