As a Summer Camp Counselor, you will play a vital role in creating a safe, fun, and memorable experience for campers. Your primary responsibilities will include supervising and engaging with campers, leading activities, and fostering a positive and inclusive environment. Here's a breakdown of your duties:
- Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times. Supervise campers during activities, meals, and free time. Monitor behavior and intervene when necessary to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
- Activity Planning and Implementation: Plan, organize, and lead a variety of age-appropriate activities, including games, sports, arts and crafts, nature exploration, and team-building exercises. Adapt activities to accommodate different skill levels and interests.
- Instruction and Guidance: Provide guidance, instruction, and encouragement to campers as they participate in activities. Foster personal growth, teamwork, and character development through positive reinforcement and constructive feedback.
- Role Model: Serve as a positive role model for campers by demonstrating respect, responsibility, and good sportsmanship. Encourage campers to uphold camp values and rules.
- Conflict Resolution: Mediate conflicts between campers and facilitate peaceful resolutions. Teach campers effective communication and problem-solving skills.
- Camp Maintenance: Assist with daily camp operations, including setting up and cleaning activity areas, organizing equipment, and maintaining a tidy camp environment.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with fellow counselors and camp staff to coordinate schedules, plan special events, and address any issues or concerns that arise.
- Communication: Communicate regularly with camp leadership, parents/guardians, and other staff members regarding camper progress, behavior, and any relevant updates or incidents.
- Emergency Response: Follow camp procedures and protocols in the event of emergencies, including first aid, evacuation, and contacting appropriate authorities or medical personnel when necessary.
- Training and Professional Development: Participate in pre-camp training sessions to learn camp policies, procedures, and safety protocols. Seek opportunities for professional growth and skill development throughout the summer.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience or have an exceptional passion in working with children or in a camp setting is preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Enthusiasm, energy, and a passion for working with children.
- Certification in CPR and first aid may be required (or willingness to obtain certification).
- Background check may be required.
