Role Overview:
The Fabrication Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the fabrication department within GTI Energy’s operations at the Goodyear facility. This role interfaces with operations management, quality, engineering, and production to ensure the successful fabrication of components, meeting customer demand, production schedules, and quality standards. The Fabrication Superintendent will oversee welding, coating, and material preparation, ensuring all work is completed according to drawings, specifications, and safety requirements.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate welding, coating, and fabrication processes to ensure efficient production.
- Ensure all fabricated components meet blueprint specifications, material requirements, and quality standards.
- Oversee welders, fabricators, and coating personnel, ensuring adherence to safety and operational procedures.
- Serve as a quality control checkpoint, ensuring all fabrication processes comply with industry standards, welding procedures (AWS D1.1, ASME, etc.), and internal guidelines.
- Ensure all welding and coating equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and in working order.
- Work closely with operations management and engineers to review drawings and provide input on fabrication processes and improvements.
- Maintain inventory of fabrication materials, including steel, consumables, welding wire, and coatings, ensuring adequate supply.
- Implement and enforce welding procedures, safety protocols, and coating application standards.
- Perform inspections of welds, coatings, and structural components, ensuring adherence to quality and durability standards.
- Assist in troubleshooting fabrication issues, making necessary adjustments to ensure production goals are met.
- Develop and implement process improvements to enhance fabrication efficiency and reduce material waste.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance on fabrication tools and equipment to minimize downtime.
- Support training and development of fabrication team members to enhance skills and adherence to quality standards.
- Monitor work schedules and staffing needs to optimize productivity.
Required Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of fabrication and welding supervision experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Proficiency in welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, and FCAW, metal fabrication, and coating applications.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings.
- Strong understanding of welding codes and standards such as AWS D1.1, ASME, and API.
- Familiarity with coating applications, including surface preparation, primer, and finish coatings.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to fifty pounds.
- Ability to bend, climb, squat, reach, and kneel as required in fabrication environments.
- Experience using fabrication tools, power tools, plasma cutters, and welding equipment.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise, train, and mentor fabrication personnel.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot welding and coating defects.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed to meet production demands.
- Completion of a welding apprenticeship program or technical/trade school certification preferred.
- Welding certification such as AWS or ASME preferred.
