Job Description:
The South Tama County School District is seeking a Middle School Middle School Assistant Principal for the 2025-2026 school year. South Tama County Middle School is centrally located between Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, and Waterloo and is home to approximately 400 students and 60 staff members.
Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Middle School Principal, the Middle School Assistant Principal will assist the principal in administering and supervising the school in accordance with Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable law.

Essential Functions of the Middle School Assistant Principal:
- Assist the principal in the operations of the school.
- Assist the principal in the evaluation of the building personnel and programs.
- Assist the principal with staff selection, evaluation, and assignment.
- Communicates with parents and the community important information, updates, and news of the school.
- Administers school policies and working agreements as they apply to all personnel.
- Assist the principal in the recommendations on curriculum and personnel matters.
- Implements the district's philosophy of education in areas of assigned responsibilities.
- Works with staff members in the development of ideas that establish positive attitudes about school.
- Assist the principal with student discipline and attendance.
- Develops budget requests and monitors budget accounts in areas of responsibility.
- Implements all Board of Directors policies and regulations.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
- Knowledge of Middle School curriculum and concepts.
- Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation, and staff supervision.
- Knowledge of systems administration, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding education.
- Ability to develop and implement long-term projects.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to effectively delegate tasks to school personnel for the purpose of operating the department at a Middle school level.
- Ability to self-reflect and willingness to grow with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others

- Works in standard office and school building environments.
- State Certification as required for position.
- Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in School Administration.
- Successful administrative experience at the secondary level is preferred but not mandatory.
