Vice President of Operations - Steel Erection - Indianapolis, IN
Gryphon Oakwood are currently working on a Vice President of Operations role to manage industrial and commercial structural steel operations in the Indianapolis area. You will be responsible for operational strategy, leadership and budget management on large scale erection projects.
Responsibilities:
- As a key member of the Management Team, direct field operations and manage all field expenses and job costing.
- Oversee steel erection activities in collaboration with the Construction Manager, General Superintendent, Superintendent, General Foreman, and Foreman.
- Ensure strict adherence to project and Company safety standards and environmental programs.
- Lead and develop all aspects of project planning, oversee project execution and close-out, and optimize the utilization of labor, material, and other resources across projects.
- Complete monthly project forecasts.
- Evaluate daily production, schedule, and budget projections to accurately track project performance.
- Manage project costs daily, weekly, and monthly, including invoicing Owners/Clients and ensuring timely payments to Vendors and other parties.
- Develop project schedules, including labor, equipment, and material requirements.
- Manage and maintain project schedules on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Maintain current industry contacts and develop new ones to source steel erection opportunities in Alaska and other US markets.
- Act as a Company ambassador internally and externally, liaising with Clients, Owners, and Unions.
- Review structural steel erection estimates and proposals, and lead their development when required.
- Recommend and approve field asset purchases.
- Mentor, coach, and supervise General Superintendents, Superintendents, General Foremen, Foremen, Project Engineers, and Field Engineers.
- Proactively seek new business opportunities through professional relationships.
- Work in a combination of standard office, field office, construction site, and hybrid/home environments.
- Be capable of physical activities including standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting up to 75 pounds, with potential occasional exposure to site hazards.
- Adhere to the promotion of a safe and healthy work environment and utilize provided safety and equipment training for all personnel as required.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the construction industry.
- Proven experience in structural steel erection.
- Exemplary leadership abilities, including strong team building skills.
- Experience in steel bridge and industrial construction.
- Degree in Civil or Construction Engineering (not mandatory).
- Registered Professional Engineer status.
- Strong understanding of crane/lifting operations and rigging practices.
- Demonstrated site experience working directly with structural ironworkers.
- Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and presentations) for internal and external stakeholders.
