What are the responsibilities and job description for the IT Intern position at GS Engineering?
The IT Intern is responsible for supporting the IT staff primarily in the areas of responding to day-to-day support
requests and assisting with implementation of modifications and upgrades to the company’s computer network.
This position requires a self-motivated, flexible individual capable of working effectively with others to solve
problems in real time.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The IT Intern is responsible for the following tasks, and others as assigned:
- Respond to ad-hoc support requests from users.
- Primarily related to endpoint support including desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and VDI thin clients.
- Troubleshoot software issues with a variety of applications including office productivity software engineering tools (CAD, CAE, etc.), and cloud-based tools (Office365, Sharepoint, MS Teams).
- Assist the IT staff with management of the company’s primarily Windows based network.
- Execution of server and network infrastructure maintenance and upgrades.
- Support IT security provisions including endpoint security, firewalls, and Multi-Factor Authentication.
- Develop scripts, tools, and utilities to automate IT tasks and workflows.
- Produce high-quality documentation as necessary.
- Participates in the support and continual improvement of GS Engineering’s Quality Management System.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Technical: Solve technical problems related to computing systems which support a wide range of technical and administrative users.
Cost: Perform assigned tasks within agreed-upon timelines and provide feedback when barriers are encountered which might extend those timelines.
Quality: Deliver solutions and technical documentation that achieve company expectations for quality.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS / ATTRIBUTES:
- Student enrolled in a Computer Networking and System Administration, Computer Science, or similar program preferred.
- Experience in help desk support, knowledge of networking and security concepts, background in computer hardware and programming logic preferred, and experience with Windows scripting (e.g.batch, powershell) preferred.
- Must demonstrate enthusiasm for excellence in user support and strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident able to obtain a security clearance from the Department of Defense upon hiring.
