GSE Construction Divisional Safety Manager Job Description
GSE Construction is looking for a divisional safety manager for the Southern California region. This individual will be overseeing the safety operations of all GSE projects in the Southern California area while being overseen by the Corporate Safety Director. That being said, there will be continuous travel from week to week. This individual will be required to set up, plan, and execute travel arrangements with costs being covered by GSE Construction.
This safety professional will be heading and overseeing all aspects of GSE safety training. This consists of Performing regular safety trainings in all divisions as needed (with traveling being covered by GSE). Documenting and maintaining up to date safety certifications for GSE employees, as well as maintaining a log of training needs. The required responsibilities and requirements are as follows.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Risk Management
- Coordinate and conduct worksite inspections, assessments, surveys, and program evaluations to identify potential hazards and for compliance with all applicable safety and health regulations and contract requirements.
- Assist in creation and updating of policies to protect GSE Construction as well as GSE employees and maintain compliance.
- Attend GSE annual safety reviews, provide presentation of risk assessment and management, as well as assist in the follow up of corporate recommendations.
- Ensure subcontractor compliance regarding safety and health requirements.
- Delivers corrective action & disciplinary measures with employees who fail to comply with expected safety standards.
- Conduct Regular Site Visits and Safety Audits
- Perform monthly site safety inspections.
- Perform and assist with JHA’s on high exposure tasks, as well as pre-construction safety documentation.
- Ensure and track that each project is performing and documenting the required site safety documentation and inspections.
- Assist on site with the GSE team when high risk tasks are being performed or planned. Assist with the planning, documentation, and equipment to ensure safe work practices.
- Injury and Incident Response
- Collaborate with superintendents, and project managers on investigations of incidents and document properly. Assist in implementation of corrective actions as it relates to the incident.
- Conducting follow-up investigations to ensure hazards and deficiencies are addressed and mitigated.
- Formulating root cause analysis for accident/incidents and presenting it to upper management for review.
- Conduct retraining for employees that show deficient work performance that contributes to incident.
- Initiate and assist injured employees with GSE’s back to work program, to ensure employees return to work in a timely manner.
- Training
- Perform safety trainings in each division for GSE employees to maintain training requirements with all Local, State, and Federal guidelines.
- Select and coordinate with the safety team for trainings involving third party trainers.
- Maintain all safety training records and make sure that they are readily available to project management teams.
- Maintaining an up to date and compliant safety training program.
- Project Support
- Assist with project setup for all safety and compliance items.
- Develop and assist with site specific safety plans, confined space entries, critical pick plans, excavations, etc.
- Review and accept sub-contractor safety plans.
- Attending and representing GSE with site specific progress meetings as required.
- Procure and provide safety related items such as PPE, air monitors, davit arm, fall protection etc.
- Assist project staff with requested safety related items when asked.
- Equipment
- Purchasing of proper safety equipment for the California division.
- Updating and maintaining the inventory of safety equipment and PPE.
- Coordinate and deliver safety equipment to projects regularly and as requested.
- Search out and investigate the new and improved safety equipment on the market.
Required Certifications and Experience/Knowledge
- 5 years of construction safety experience
- CHST (minimum) from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals
- OSHA 500 from OSHA Training Institute (required)
- Experience in training in construction safety
- Competent person excavation certification
- Knowledge in confined space entries
- Knowledge of cranes and rigging
