POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a CDL A Yard Hostler to join our team. This crucial role collaborates closely with our shipping and transportation teams to ensure smooth operations, with an emphasis on professionalism and teamwork. The Yard Hostler will be responsible for ensuring trucks are properly loaded and operational, contributing to the overall efficiency of our logistics.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review the nightly schedule and confirm correct initial trailer placement.
- Ensure initial temperature settings on refrigerated units are accurate.
- Follow the designated nightly equipment location diagram.
- Conduct periodic temperature checks on trailers throughout the night.
- Perform minor repairs as needed.
- Check fuel levels on all equipment.
- Shuttle equipment to designated locations as per the schedule and Supervisor's directives.
- Report any equipment malfunctions to the Supervisor.
- Operate industrial trucks to move materials and products.
- Maintain inventory of trailers in the yard.
- Transport trailers to and from repair shops as required.
- Collaborate with the shipping team to ensure trucks are docked for loading as needed.
- Maintain consistent, on-time attendance.
- Comply with all DOT rules and regulations.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Proficient in backing tractor trailers.
- Basic repair skills.
- Strong organizational and strategic thinking abilities.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and exercise sound judgment.
- Adherence to safety regulations and the ability to inspect vehicle mechanics.
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
- Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds throughout the day.
- Willingness to work overtime when required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- CDL A (Required).
- Successful completion of a driver’s road test or equivalent.
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- Valid DOT Medical Certificate.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug and background screenings.
