We are looking for an experienced and driven Geotechnical Department Manager to oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of our geotechnical engineering department. Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the geotechnical engineering team, providing direction, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance team culture while maintaining technical excellence.
- Oversee the successful execution of geotechnical engineering projects, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery.
- Manage the geotechnical aspects of large-scale including site assessments, soil analysis, foundation design, slope stability studies, retaining structures ground improvement and earthwork.
- Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, civil engineers, developers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project success and seamless integration of geotechnical work.
- Monitor project progress, ensure compliance with regulations, and proactively address potential risks or issues.
- Develop and implement strategies for growing the geotechnical services portfolio and securing new business opportunities, particularly in the high-rise construction market.
- Cultivate relationships with clients, contractors, and industry partners to enhance business development efforts.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and client meetings, positioning the firm as a leader in the geotechnical field.
- Provide technical leadership in geotechnical engineering practices and methodologies, ensuring the team’s work adheres to the latest industry standards, codes, and best practices.
- Stay up-to-date with advancements in geotechnical technologies and approaches, integrating innovation to improve project efficiency and outcomes.
- Review and approve geotechnical reports, design documents, and other technical deliverables.
- Manage departmental budgets, resource allocation, and project financials to ensure profitability and efficient use of resources.
- Identify and implement cost-effective solutions for geotechnical aspects of projects while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field
- Florida Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required
- 10 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a strong focus on high-rise construction projects in the Miami area.
- Must have experience with 5 projects of over 30 stories in height.
- Proven track record of managing and delivering complex geotechnical projects on time and within budget.
- Experience in business development and client management within the engineering or construction industry.
- Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
- In dept knowledge of local codes, regulations and best practices in Miami's construction environment.
- Ability to thrive in a fast paced, challenging, and rewarding work environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for client interaction, internal team collaboration, and report preparation
- Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)
- Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification).
- Proven experience in managing geotechnical investigations, designs, and projects from conception to completion.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations, including safety and environmental standards related to geotechnical practices.
- Strong leadership abilities, including experience managing teams, conflict resolution, and fostering a positive team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for client interaction, internal team collaboration, and report preparation.
- Experience with geotechnical engineering software and standard office software
- Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear; body motions and movements include: bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing
- Lifting and/or moving up to thirty-five pounds regularly on average, and up to seventy-five pounds on occasion, with or without reasonable accommodation
- This job is located in Florida, with exposure to intense sun, intense heat, humidity, rain, thunderstorms, and other adverse weather condition
- Job site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle and can include wetlands, swamps, grasslands, and fields with uneven surfaces, sand, brush, and other natural and man-made obstacles.
- This job is primarily and regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud
