Department Description

GSK’s Structure Function Characterization (SFC) department- Immuno and Molecular Assays (IMA) group is seeking a highly motivated scientist to assist with the development and automation of immunological assays within the. The IMA group supports GSK medicines Research and Development and contributes to the analytical strategy ensuring GSK’s products, particularly biopharmaceuticals, enable patients to do more, feel better, and live longer. GSK is headquartered in London, UK with operations in the US; We are located at the Upper Providence, PA site.

Job Description

We are seeking a Summer co-op student in the IMA group supporting biological residuals assays. This position will allow the selected candidate to provide assay support to an R&D group. The individual will assist with development of analytical methods based on biochemical techniques, which include ELISA, quantitative PCR, SDS-PAGE, 2-D DIGE, and Western blot with supervision. Apply state‐of‐the‐art automated systems to above tasks when appropriate, including use of computerized analytical equipment, robotics systems, and other automated analytical systems. Accurately records experimental results in laboratory notebooks. Prepare buffers and maintain laboratory equipment, facilities and assure that the function and operation of the laboratory comply with the applicable procedures (safety, SOPs, and administrative procedures).

Minimum Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Immunology, Analytical Chemistry, or related scientific field with knowledge of immunoassay
• Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the 6-month co-op (June ~ December 2025).
• Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Some laboratory experience in Biochemistry, Biology, Immunology, Analytical Chemistry, or related scientific field with knowledge of immunoassay
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team with good people skills.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote) is required. Some familiarity or experience with SpotFire data analysis or programming language (such as R or Python) preferred.
• Interest and/or experience in using automation such as a liquid handling system is preferred.
• Experience in the design, set up, execution and analysis of the following biochemical techniques, including: ELISA, quantitative PCR, SDS-PAGE/Western blot is preferred.
• Basic understanding or knowledge of statistical methods as applied to bioanalytical data interpretation preferred.

Candidates who are hired for an on-site role or hybrid role, and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location, are eligible for relocation stipend. • This job posting is for a temporary role as an employee of Atrium on assignment at GSK. The individual selected for this role will be offered the role as an employee of Atrium; compensation, medical benefits, fringe benefits and other terms and conditions of employment shall be presented by Atrium upon offer. The pay rate range provided is a reasonable estimate of the anticipated compensation range for this job at the time of posting. The actual pay rate will be based on several factors, including educational degree obtained.

  In addition, this role will be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirement.

  • Pay Rate Range: $21/hr to $40/hr
