Department Description
Our department is committed to drive innovation by expanding state-of-the-art lab automation. The use of automated robotic laboratory platforms in research and development improves efficiency in the drug development process. The ongoing vision of laboratory automation is one where implementation:

Job Description
The Automation Science Intern role will deepen experience in laboratory automation along with various analytical chemistry techniques to deliver value to GSK medicinal compounds.
Accordingly, the student will partner with an experienced member of the scientific team, and will be mentored throughout the internship to learn how to utilize innovative automated robotic platforms and experimental workflows with the following purpose:
- Optimize workflow designs for key internal partners to successfully deliver automation utilizing a range of specialized robots; enhancing drug product design across all phases of development.
- Develop robust lab automation protocols and analytical methods to meet the needs of the analysts, chemists, engineers, and formulation scientists.
- Regularly participate in multidisciplinary project teams, collaborating with various departments and colleagues to define and implement development strategies according to project timelines.
- Increase internal visibility by networking with a wide range of businesses within the organization.
- Organize, evaluate, and present data in an effective and scientific manner using advanced software visualization tools.
- Opportunities to present to project teams with updates along with a final departmental presentation at the end of internship.
- Increase experimental efficiency and throughput while upholding high standards of scientific quality and integrity.
- Focus on career development activities such as internal resume reviews, LinkedIn profile set-up, networking, job-shadowing opportunities, and possibilities to present data at scientific sharing events.
Minimum Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related scientific disciplines.
- Basic lab experience (completed at least one lab course).
- This role is open to beginner, intermediate, and advanced applicants.
- Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the 12-week internship (May/June ~ August 2025).
- Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic understanding of analytical instrumentation in support of drug molecule development.
- Experience working in a chemistry-focused laboratory environment.
- Interest in working with automated robotic platforms.
- High learning agility with an ability and willingness to effectively manage first-time challenges in changing conditions.

- While GSK embraces a flexible work environment, we do require certain positions to be onsite. Candidates who are hired for an on-site role or hybrid role, and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location, are eligible for relocation stipend. This is a one-time payment to help offset housing & relocation expenses. Please refer to the position details for the requirements of each position.

This job posting is for a temporary role as an employee of Atrium on assignment at GSK. The individual selected for this role will be offered the role as an employee of Atrium; compensation, medical benefits, fringe benefits and other terms and conditions of employment shall be presented by Atrium upon offer. The pay rate range provided is a reasonable estimate of the anticipated compensation range for this job at the time of posting. The actual pay rate will be based on several factors, including skills, competencies, experience, educational degree obtained, location and/or being pursued and other job-related factors permitted by law.
In addition, this role will be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirement.
Pay Rate Range: $21/hr to $40/hr
