Flexible Substitute Teacher

Location: Southampton

Salary: £93 - £140 per day (Depending on Experience)

Start Date: Immediate / After Easter 2025

Contract Type: Full Time / Permanent (Part-time can also be arranged for the right candidate)

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Flexible Substitute Teacher to work across secondary schools in Southampton. This is a fantastic opportunity for educators who enjoy varied classroom experiences while maintaining control over their schedules.

As a Substitute Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering pre-planned lessons, managing classroom behaviour, and ensuring a positive learning environment in the absence of the regular teacher. Whether covering short-term absences or long-term placements, you will play a key role in keeping students engaged and motivated in their learning journey.

Responsibilities Of a Substitute Teacher

• Deliver pre-prepared lessons in the absence of the classroom teacher, ensuring continuity in learning.
• Manage classroom behaviour effectively, following the school’s policies and procedures.
• Engage students in interactive and meaningful learning experiences.
• Adapt quickly to different school environments, subjects, and year groups.
• Provide clear instructions and support to students during lessons.
• Ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
• Work closely with senior staff and other educators to support students’ progress.
• Supervise students during breaks, transitions, and extracurricular activities when required.
  
  

Requirements That We Need In a Substitute Teacher

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification (highly desirable).
• Experience working with secondary school students in a teaching or cover capacity.
• Strong classroom management skills with the ability to engage diverse learners.
• A flexible and adaptable approach to teaching in different subjects and settings.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• An enthusiastic and proactive attitude towards education.
• Enhanced DBS check on the update service or willingness to apply for one.
