Now Hiring: Field Operations Technician– Tallahassee, FL (Local Candidates Only!)
Join our team as a Hybrid Fiber / SCN / DAS Field Ops Tech in Tallahassee! Work with cutting-edge fiber optic and RF equipment, troubleshoot network issues, and perform critical maintenance across small cell and DAS networks.
No Visa or C2C candidates.
The Field Operations Technician will be responsible for installing, provisioning, testing, troubleshooting, splicing, and maintaining high-speed fiber optic transmission equipment and telecommunications circuits that support service delivery. The role also includes supporting the reactive and proactive maintenance of Small Cell / DAS Networks. Responsibilities include resolving Reactive Maintenance tickets, completing Preventative Maintenance, and performing Network Acceptance tasks.
Experience/Minimum Requirements:
- 2 to 5 years of experience in the installation and maintenance of telecommunications equipment (OSP/ISP preferred).
- Working knowledge of SONET networks, WDM networks, and Ethernet (10/100/1000BaseT).
- Experience in testing and delivering high-speed telecommunications services.
- Proficient in operating a variety of telecommunications test equipment.
- Technical knowledge of Fiber, Coax, and Low voltage troubleshooting.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Construction Manager (10% of time):
- Work with Fiber Optic SONET, Ethernet, and SDH-related test equipment including OTDR, PMD, Optical Spectrum Analyzer, and BER Test.
- Conduct and validate all testing of network equipment to ensure adherence to Fiber procedures and equipment manufacturers’ specifications.
- Collaborate with the Network Operations Center (NOC) for final acceptance and testing of newly installed equipment and rings.
- Perform validation of provisioning, alarm monitoring to the Network Management System (NMS), network switch protection, etc.
- Set up sniffers for network analysis.
- Perform site surveys of remote locations to ensure quality installation of racks, equipment, power plants, fiber cable, etc.
- Report defects to the Operations Manager or OSP Project Engineer.
- Label and tag all equipment and cabling per Network Engineering Diagrams.
SCN / DAS Operations (90% of time):
- Perform advanced analysis and troubleshooting of network problems/issues, while assisting NOC and customers.
- Implement hardware and software updates/changes to remote site equipment.
- Maintain electronic records of work completed for various assignments.
- Interface with customers and carriers for service delivery and assurance.
- Work independently for extended periods.
- Collaborate with NOC, Sales Engineering, and customers.
- Respond to network outages, impairments, and emergencies in the assigned area.
- Conduct elevated bucket truck inspections and repairs.
- Complete all annual preventative maintenance inspections
- Operate and understand RF and fiber-related test equipment, including PIM analyzer, Antenna analyzer, RF power meter, Spectrum analyzer, Signal generator, OTDR, Fusion splicer, and Fiber Optic power meter.
- Use web-based tools and systems for Small Cell Network administrative tasks.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
