Role Overview:
The Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire process of procuring, storing, controlling, and distributing materials needed for production, ensuring the right quantity and quality of supplies are available at the right time, while optimizing inventory levels. Further, this role minimizes costs by managing vendor relationships, negotiating prices, and monitoring material flow through the supply chain.
Job Responsibilities:
- Analyze production needs to forecast material requirements, creating purchase orders based upon demand.
- Identify and source reliable supplies, negotiate pricing and delivery terms, and manage vendor relationships.
- Monitor inventory levels, implement inventory management systems to minimize stockouts and excess inventory, and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
- Inspect incoming materials to verify quality and quantity against purchase orders, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
- Manage material operations in the warehouse including storage space allocation, material handling, and efficient distribution of materials to production lines.
- Generate reports on inventory levels, purchasing activity, and materials costs.
Required Qualifications:
- At least 5 years’ experience in a Materials Manager position, directly responsible for all material management for a Company. Preferred experience in setting up material management for a new facility.
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field of work.
- Strong understanding of supply chain principles and logistics.
- Proficiency with inventory management and material tracking systems.
- Prior experience in obtaining permits and working with local and state agencies.
- Demonstrated proficiency in supervising and motivating direct reports, as well as contractors.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage priorities and workflow
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Programs.
- Proven leadership and business acumen skills
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Ability to understand any and all safety requirements and cautions
- Ability to perform the physical labor necessary
- Bilingual skills a plus.
- Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.
