Schedule: Tues-Sat 10 AM - 6 PM OR Mon-Fri
Pay Rate: $18/hour for the first 3 months, increasing to $19-$20/hour (d.o.e.) after the probationary period.

Position Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will be integral to the laboratory’s operations, focusing on sorting, pre-accessioning, and accessioning samples. You will also participate in quality assurance checks to ensure accurate entry of patient information into our Laboratory Information System (LIS). This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced environment and are eager to develop their skills within a supportive team.
Daily Overview: In this role, you will be responsible for managing the receipt and processing of laboratory samples. Your day will begin by sorting incoming samples according to their respective departments (PCR, PGX, Tox). Once sorted, you'll assign a unique 6-digit tracking number to each sample, a process known as pre-accessioning.
Following pre-accessioning, you'll move on to the critical task of accessioning, which involves entering patient and insurance information into the system. Accuracy during this phase is vital, as up to 70% of errors can occur here, directly impacting the laboratory’s operations and revenue generation.
At the end of the day, you'll perform quality assurance checks on the work completed by others to ensure all processes are completed correctly and efficiently. Attention to detail and a commitment to quality are essential in this role.
Position Responsibilities:
- Sort, pre-accession, and accession laboratory samples.
- Conduct quality assurance checks to verify accurate patient information entry into the LIS.
- Assist laboratory technicians in sample preparation and handling.
- Complete entry-level laboratory logs and maintain organized records.
- Support the maintenance of laboratory equipment and ensure a clean workspace.
- Adapt to shifting priorities and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Participate in training and contribute to team discussions.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (required); Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field preferred.
- Experience:
- Preferred: Some laboratory experience or involvement in research projects, with basic pipetting skills.
- Acceptable: Recent graduates or candidates with experience in fast-paced work environments.
