Description
The Food Services - Cook is responsible for planning and preparing meals in compliance with the USDA guidelines and the Department of Health regulations for Early Childhood Education programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists with menu preparation under the guidelines established by the Child Nutrition Program
- Cooks food in quantities according to menu, portion sizes and number of children to be served
- Preps all food in a manner appropriate to the age of the children being served
- Ensures that food is prepared for children with special dietary constraints
- Ensures that children receive a sufficient amount of food
- Records attendance and meal service immediately upon completion of serving, in compliance with state guidelines
- Prepares purchase orders for food and kitchen products utilizing the current menu and the current inventory
- Cleans kitchen according to the state guidelines
- Washes dishes, pots etc. at the end of prep and serving
- Maintains accurate inventory of food items, paper products and other supplies
- Responsible for putting all food away following Department of Health regulations
- Verifies on a daily basis that thermometer readings in the dishwasher, freezers and refrigerators follow the guidelines of local and state Department of Health
- Maintains Health Department Regulations and Standards
- Delivers food to classrooms while maintaining sanitary procedures
- Serves food into family style containers for children eating in the cafeteria
- Breaks down cardboard boxes and takes them to recyclable staging area
- Takes all trash bags out in trash cans to the dumpster so we can avoid leakage of milk and other food products on the floor
- Cleans freezers, refrigerators, walk-in cooler and ice machine, as needed
- Sweeps and mops floors in all cafeteria and kitchen areas after breakfast and lunch
- Wipes down tables, chairs, walls, counters etc. after each meal
- Ensures safety in the workplace
- Reports any accidents to supervisor as soon as the incident occurs

Requirements
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Experience cooking for large groups
- Ability to read and write English
- Ability to perform addition and subtraction
- Ability to record all data required for the Child Nutrition Program
- Must be able to pass Level II FBI background screening and drug screening
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED
- One-year related experience
- Food Handler/Manager license, required
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT
- Able to lift up to 20 to 35 pounds
- Bend and stretch
- Able to use kitchen utensils with repetitive motions. Example: stirring, chopping, etc.
- Able to work in hot conditions
- Able to be stand on feet for long periods of time
