The Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools serves 1600 students from PreK-12 and is a free, open-enrollment public charter school. Over 96% of our students are Latinx. Our school system consists of Guadalupe Centers High School, Guadalupe Centers Middle School, and Guadalupe Centers Elementary School. Our system grew out of Guadalupe Centers’ educational programming. Guadalupe Centers is the longest continuously operating agency serving the Latinx community in the US since 1919. Our roots in our community run deep.

Summary:

The College and Career Navigator will be responsible for implementing career experiences and Market Value Asset (MVA) opportunities for all students in 9th-12th grades. This dedicated staff would ensure equitable access to new MVA opportunities for all GCHS students, monitor the quality of these opportunities, and provide continued support to GCHS alumni to ensure MVA opportunities are leveraged to their fullest potential in the first two years after high school.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Career Navigator

  • Manage internship partnerships with a pilot group of approximately 10 organizations in healthcare and business administration available to 11th and 12th-grade students within a GCHS career pathway as they are developed over the next three years.
  • Create and monitor an internship and career shadowing transportation plan that removes transportation as a barrier to participation.
  • Develop a calendar of college and career experiences for 9th-12th Graders (internships, shadow experiences, career fairs, career panels, college visits, etc)
  • Develop and implement an equitable recruitment system for advisory classes for placing students in all 9-12 college/career experiences at GCHS
  • Track participation in all college and career experiences to establish a baseline of the involvement in newly created grade-level benchmarks to set growth goals


Alumni Support

  • Network and communicate with alumni through phone, face-to-face meetings, email, and

social media a minimum of three times a year (Fall, Winter, and early Spring). Work with our Avanzando Coordinator to determine a roster of alumni to avoid duplication of effort.

  • Audit and maintain an alumni database to collect longitudinal alumni data, including information that will help assess the effectiveness of current college and career preparedness and alumni support strategies as well as contact information and a log of interactions with each alum.
  • Make sure students are fully aware of college/university resources in both academic and personal advising and counseling as well as student social organizations and clubs available on campus
  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct ongoing assessment of college and career retention strategy
  • Utilize incentives and targeted outreach including home visits to encourage alumni who have left their careers or college to re-engage
  • Organize, promote, and oversee events to support alumni such as reunions, financial aid/FAFSA nights, employer engagement, career networking events, and informational sessions such as career exploration, resume development, college persistence, and fundraisers.
  • Provide support during the summer before starting college to ensure alumni attend summer orientations at their respective campuses, enrollment in courses, scholarships, and financial aid has been accepted, and eligible college credits earned during high school are transferred/accepted
  • As requested, assist the Director of Communications and Principal with the alumni newsletter and additional information.
  • Maintain alumni social media pages and other alumni outreach.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent managerial skills.
  • Ability to create, execute, and implement budgets.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the related field; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Two to four years of experience working with students to successfully transition to college and careers
  • Bilingual ability; English required and Spanish preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to travel between various locations.
