Position Summary:
The Portfolio Manager will partner closely with the Loan Officer to execute the Bank’s commercial loan origination strategy and will assist the Loan Officers in managing new and existing customers with higher total credit exposure (TCE) and higher levels of risk. Simultaneously, the PM will assist the Credit Officer with enforcing the credit policy of the bank and with on-going monitoring of risk within the bank’s portfolio directly assigned to the PM.

Essential Task Statement(s)
Branch Credit/Ownership (80%)
- Assist Loan Officer in prioritizing existing and prospective loan requests.
- Assist Loan Officer with preparing for Customer calls.
- Attend customer calls with Loan Officer.
- PM’s will be introduced to all customers above a to-be-determined TCE and will be included on future calls, as needed.
- Take notes and have follow up discussion with Loan Officer to ensure they agree on future potential of relationship, creditworthiness, concerns, etc.
- Assist Loan Officer with underwriting loan requests.
- Determine what Financial Statements (FS) are required and ensure that all FS have been obtained.
- Ensure the customer signs the “Release of Information” form that will allow PM’s and LO’s to contact accountants directly.
- Create detailed Debt Schedules based on FS and discussion with customer.
- Review FS for accuracy and items requiring explanation and/or clarification.
- Obtain explanation / clarification from customer prior to spreading customer in Sage Works.
- Review FS for potential ancillary bank business (i.e. Wealth Management, Treasury Management, Mortgage, etc).
- Send Financial Analysis request to Credit Analyst department (or spread in SW) and act as Credit Analyst’s point of contact regarding Financial Statement questions.
- Ensure that the financial statements have been accurately spread in Sage Works.
- Discuss Sage Works spreads with Loan Officer.
- Ensure all questions arising from spread are adequately explained in CM.
- Assist LO with preparing CM and loan package.
- Help establish appropriate structure for proposed debt.
- Help identify potential risk and related mitigants, then complete the Risk Rate Matrix.
- Ensure there are no non-approved Policy Exceptions.
- Help establish meaningful covenants and monitor compliance.
- Ensure all needed documentation is attached in Teslar using the prescribed naming conventions.
- Loan Officer will present loan request to required level of approval authority with the assistance of PM.
- PM’s will present requests for approval in Loan Officer absence.
- Attend Loan closings with Loan Officer.
- Post-closing Responsibilities
- Clear exceptions.
- Collect financials in a timely manner.
- Monitor covenants / Borrowing Base certificates.
- Manage maturing loans.
- Facilitate renewals prior to maturity.
- Extend or renew maturing loans to coincide with other maturing loans of customer.
- Perform annual reviews, as required.
- Assist Loan Officers with past dues.
- Must possess skills necessary to work collaboratively and independent of the Loan Officer to meet the needs of the customer/portfolio.
- Participates in various community activities on behalf of the bank.
- Ensure bank is in compliance with federal banking regulations including, but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, OFAC, Community Reinvestment Act, American with Disabilities Act, Right to Financial Privacy Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, the Federal Reserve’s “lettered” regulations, and Portfolio Manager I roles and responsibilities relating to each act.
Customer Service (10%)
- Represent Guaranty Bank & Trust Company professionally, efficiently, and tactfully
- Acknowledge and greet customers with a smile, call customer by their name, ask if they need any additional assistance, thank customer at end of every conversation
- Ensure continuing development of professional relationships with management and colleagues.
- Follow all bank policies and procedures
- Answer and assist incoming callers with questions and requests; subsequently route callers, as appropriate.
- Receive incoming bank visitors and assist in directing them appropriately.
Additional Functions-Secondary Responsibilities and Accountabilities (10%)
Additional Task Statement(s)
- Work overtime, as needed.

Position Qualifications
Education: Required – Post –secondary certificate or degree, preferably in accounting, finance, business, or related field.
Preferred –BA/BS degree preferred, experience will be considered.
Experience: Required – 2 to 5 years of Commercial and Consumer lending in banking or related field. Basic understanding of accounting, finance, financial statement and cash flow analysis and loan policy.
Preferred – 5 to 8 years of experience in banking or a related area.
