What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter Advocate - Days (1 position open) position at Guardian Angel Community Services?
Days: Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Seeking to fill key role in the provision of sheltering services to individuals (adults and children) traumatized by domestic violence. The person in this role will be a crucial contributor to a strong, dynamic supportive team under great leadership.
BASIC FUNCTION: Assist adults and children being provided with shelter as a result of being victimized by domestic violence. Administer direct services to program clients and contribute to program administration and assist with shelter/household and office duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate in the development of services to victims of domestic violence which conform to program design and meet contractual standards.
Assist Shelter Supervisor to implement a coordinated Groundwork Program in compliance with all contractual, legal, and Guardian Angel Community Services standards.
Monitor and maintain the shelter office, communal living areas, and other program space in a safe, orderly and professional manner.
Maintain confidentiality of client and agency information.
Answer the Hotline and provide assessment, crisis intervention, information and referral, advocacy or other appropriate service. Document all calls.
Provide assessment, supportive and beneficial direct services for walk-in and residential clients.
Facilitate group meetings and conflict resolution for shelter clients.
Provide assessment, safety planning and service planning for shelter and walk-in clients.
Render supportive counseling, case management, information and referral, advocacy and other services as needed for shelter residents.
Complete documentation and file maintenance on all client interactions and services provided.
Complete documentation and reports required for contractual and internal program purposes.
Complete data entry and documentation of all work related activities.
Engage in community outreach and education activities as assigned by Shelter Coordinator.
Participate in community networking groups as assigned by Shelter Coordinator.
Work collaboratively with other agency staff and community agencies.
Communicate problems and issues of concern to the Shelter Coordinator.
Assist GACS administration in any investigation against conduct that is illegal.
On call duties as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Attend individual supervision sessions as scheduled.
2. Attend weekly staff meetings.
3. Complete all job specific training as required.
4. Contribute to team cohesion and program organization and development as appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work or related field.
Interest in women's issues, family dynamics and the legal and social service delivery system.
Forty (40) hours of Domestic Violence Training.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Demonstrate sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of persons served.
Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential materials.
Ability to work flexible hours.
Bi-lingual Spanish speaking preferred.
