Position Summary:
The Chaplain, in the Spirit of Christ’s love, empowers people—Guardian Angels residents, clients, tenants, families, and staff—through their own beliefs, values, faith observance, inner strengths, or religious identity as they journey to wholeness. The chaplain serves people of all religious faiths and is available for prayer, consultation, counseling, or other spiritual care needs of residents, family members, Guardian Angels staff, and volunteers. Services are provided in accordance with the mission of Guardian Angels.
Job Duties:
- Provide a positive, supportive environment for individuals to develop and explore their own spiritualities. Respect people’s unique experiences to create meaningful relationships.
- Provides pastoral care for residents who are experiencing emotional distress, are acutely ill, dying, or have any other special needs for spiritual counsel and care.
- Maintain confidentiality and provide a supportive context where residents, family members, staff, and volunteers can discuss their spiritual needs and concerns.
- Conducts and coordinates Guardian Angels religious services and Bible study sessions, under the guidance of the Spiritual Care Director, and assists throughout the entire care continuum.
- Performs 1:1 visits with residents.
- Works with individuals, couples, families, and small groups, offering support and encouragement through crisis intervention, grief and bereavement counseling, family support, and assistance. Documents visits and activities as appropriate, maintains records, and provides reports as requested.
- Conducts memorials as directed.
- Makes referrals to community resources.
- Performs administrative tasks.
- Inform the Director of Spiritual Care of any concerns, issues, or items that require immediate attention.
- Be available to families of residents, staff, and volunteers as a spiritual counselor.
- Works with the community clergy and congregations to provide pastoral care for residents and families.
- Coordinates chapel services and sacramental ministries as directed.
- To assist in providing worship opportunities and a dignified, respectful, resident-centered environment for residents.
- Serves on committees as needed.
- Will uphold Standards of Behavior Policy at all times.
- Uphold the mission, vision, and values of Guardian Angels.
- Conduct or coordinate spiritual activities on the campuses that Guardian Angels owns or manages as required.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule, which may include some evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends as needed.
- To assist in providing a dignified, respectful, resident-centered environment for residents.
- Follows universal precautions, facility infection control guidelines, sanitation, and safety standards of practice in all work and activities.
- All duties will be performed in accordance with current standards, guidelines, state and federal regulations.
- Uphold confidential information as required by Guardian Angels policy and procedure and as related to HIPAA.

Qualifications:
Education:
- Required: An ordained minister/priest of an established Christian denomination and/or a Master of Divinity or Theology from an accredited university or seminary.
Experience:
- Three years prior ministry experience.
- Must be able to work and collaborate with other members of the staff, residents, family members, area community ministers, etc.
- Long-term care or hospital chaplaincy experience preferred or other transferrable expertise, such as geriatric clinical social worker relevant position or background of formal ministry to the elderly or disabled.
- Familiarity with beliefs across many different faiths and cultures. Ability to respect and embrace the unique perspectives and experiences of those with whom you engage.
- Demonstrated ability to customize approach based on individual needs.
- Excellent verbal and written (read, write) communication skills.
- Self-motivated, ability to prioritize. Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Maintains good attendance and punctuality.
- Must be able to drive to different facilities throughout the day as needed.
- Some evenings, weekends, and holidays are required.
