Job Description:
Mine Paramedics provide direct patient care in accordance with GMR protocols and/or medical direction, assisting with coverage of open shifts as needed.
Essential Functions/Duties
- Evaluate, treat, and stabilize routine and urgent patients within the scope of practice and standing orders established by the sponsoring physician (Paramedic), with expanded scope responsibilities.
- Consult with Medical Director as needed.
- Administer over the counter medications.
- Order and restock medical supplies.
- Perform medical health screenings.
- Administer flu shots and maintain proper documentation.
- Restock First Aid Bags, Stoke Baskets, and First-Aid Kits.
- Assess each call situation to determine the best course of action and appropriate protocol.
- Utilize medical equipment and procedures, including defibrillator, EKG monitor, oxygen and suction devices, intravenous fluids, CPR, and other procedures and medications as required.
- Develop and utilize triage skills to provide optimal efficiency during calls.
- Provide patient care according to clinical protocols and safety requirements.
- Lift and move patients as required to provide optimum care.
- Act as team leader and take responsibility for scene management as needed.
- Monitor and maintain the general condition of the work area, keeping it clean and stocked to maintain the image of Guardian Flight and GMR.
- Stay current with advanced training, instructor credentials, and continuing education.
- SUCCESSFULLY complete and remain current with MSHA required courses, participate in mine rescue drills, and maintain all mine safety policies and complete all safety training.
- Function independently and be a self-starter in isolated locations with poor communication and no support agencies.
- Climb a 75-foot vertical ladder with 50 lbs. of gear.
- Work underground in a hot and humid environment.
- Complete all other duties assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Possess a valid Driver's License.
- Current State of Nevada Paramedic Certification.
- Driving record in compliance with GMR policy regarding insurability.
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a Paramedic, with the ability to function beyond the typical 'street environment,' where treatment may be the priority not transport.
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Prioritize multiple tasks, work independently and as a team member, employ discretion and confidentiality in sensitive areas, read, interpret, and follow instructions.
- Available to work extended shifts at remote mine sites.
