POSITION PURPOSE:
The Nurse Manager is under the supervision of the Director of Nursing and is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of clients. The Nurse Manager is responsible for all nursing related services for each client. The Nurse Manager participates in ongoing monitoring and evaluation to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the delivery of client care. The Nurse Manager is also involved in preserving and improving the quality and efficiency of client assessment and treatment care.
Qualifications
POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Graduated from an accredited School of Nursing, a M.S. degree in nursing preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of two years’ experience as a Nurse Manager with a working knowledge of Substance Use and Dual Diagnosis Clients.
Detoxification experience preferred.
Current (five-years) of no felonies or substance use convictions.
Must have two-years of continuous sobriety prior to hire, if a recovering from substance use.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Current Licensed Registered or Licensed Practical Nurse in good standing in State of Practice
Maintains current CPR
CARN (certified addiction registered nurse) certification, or willing to obtain certification within 12 months of hire
KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING REQUIRED AT TIME OF HIRE:
- Knowledge of addictions and mental health complications.
- Knowledge and competency in problem solving, stress management, ethics and team building.
- Knowledge of alcohol and other drugs that includes:
- Alcohol and addictive drugs and their physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual impact on the individual.
- Alcohol and addictive drugs and their impact on the family.
- Ability to determine if a medical emergency exists and to take appropriate action, when necessary.
- Knowledge of emergency procedures used in case of alcohol and/or drug overdose.
- Knowledge of the stages of alcohol and other drug withdrawals and ability to take appropriate action at each stage.
- Knowledge of Federal, State and Municipal laws and/or regulations that regulate the treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction, including:
- Confidentiality
- Client Rights
- Professional Code of Ethics
- Discrimination
- Knowledge of airborne and blood borne pathogens (TB, HIV, AIDS, HB) and risk reduction methodologies and the use of universal precautions.
- Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes and assumption of responsibilities not delineated in the job description which are related to work as a member of an addiction treatment team.
SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY TO POSITION
- Participate in Interdisciplinary Treatment Plan meetings.
- Stabilize clients according to unit protocol.
- Complete nursing assessments.
- Chart in the client’s medical record.
- Monitor vital signs according to GRNH, LLC’s policies and procedure.
- Supervise shift nurses.
- Ensure that shifts are always covered.
- Facilitate monthly staff training or as needed.
- Attend and participate in daily Interdisciplinary Staff Meetings.
- Ensuring that Tech completes all admission forms.
- Communicate with staff of all significant information, which includes but is not limited to the client’s mental status, vital signs, medications and any medication changes and lab results.
- Oversee doctor’s orders to the pharmacy and assure that medication arrives.
- Oversee all medication administration.
- Interview, hire and terminate nursing staff as needed.
- Review and complete Performance Evaluations for nursing team.
- Maintain required training and continuing education.
- Serves on committees as appointed.
- Provide medication education to the client population.
- Facilitate team interaction for discharge planning.
- Collect and record data in a comprehensive, accurate and systematic manner.
- Initiate and complete initial nursing assessment within 24 hours.
- Evaluate the impact of therapeutic interventions upon the therapeutic milieu.
- Share pertinent information with the team as obtained from clients or family throughout the program.
- Collaborate with the medical staff to provide medical and nursing care.
- Attend all required staff meetings.
- Assist in formulating standards for client policies and procedures.
- Promote good public relations between the program and nursing department.
- Document client progress/regress according to established policies and procedures.
- Assess clients’ need to see a psychiatrist and medical doctor weekly.
- Maintain compliance with established nursing care standards.
- Supervise and instruct clients in medication self-administration (the preparation and giving of injections) as ordered by doctor.
- Conduct suicide screenings, glucometer waived testing, medication administration, pain screenings, and vitals per protocol.
- Obtains lab specimens as ordered by doctor.
- Assist clients in obtaining medications from pharmacies.
- Provide health education groups weekly.
- Support and assist with the orientation of new employees.
- Serve as a resource in specialty to other team members.
- Manage time effectively for proper balance between administrative unit responsibilities and other program requirements.
- Assist in formulating standards of care for client’s care.
- Review, revise, and formulate policies and procedures specific to the program, with approval of the Clinical Director and Performance Improvement Coordinator.
- Evaluate client care daily by assessing clients and reviewing nursing documentation.
- Supervise all nursing activities, assuring comfort and safety of the clients.
- Ensure continuity of care using foresight in directing, controlling, planning, and organizing Client care.
- Serve as a client advocate, clinical resource person and role model for nursing personnel.
- Communicate with family and health professionals concerning the care of clients.
- Report infection control incidents to the Performance Improvement Team and Risk Management.
- Implement and monitor the Infection Control Team.
- Protect the privacy of all Client information in accordance with GRNH, LLC’s privacy policies, procedures, and practices, as required by federal and state law, and in accordance with general principle of professionalism as a healthcare provider. Failure to comply with GRNH, LLC’s policies and procedures on Client privacy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
- May access protected health information (PHI) and other patent information only to the extent that is necessary to complete your job duties. The incumbent may only share such information with those who have a need-to-know specific Client information you have in your possession to complete their job responsibilities related to treatment, payment or other GRNH, LLC operations.
- Expected to report, without the threat of retaliation, any concerns regarding GRNH, LLC’s policies and procedures on Client privacy and any observed practices in violation of the policy to their supervisor.
