We are seeking a highly motivated, versatile and detail-oriented Estate Planning Paralegal to join our Cookeville, Tennessee office. This role provides crucial support to our attorneys and clients through the estate planning process. At Guffey Law, the ideal candidate will have legal knowledge, attention to detail, and share our company statement to provide exceptional service to our valued clients. This position is full-time, in office Monday to Friday at our Cookeville location.
Responsibilities:
- Estate Planning Support: Assist with estate planning processes, including drafting estate planning documents; last will and testament, power of attorney, living wills, healthcare directives, and other ancillary documents
- Trust Administration: Manage trust administration tasks, including funding trusts, tracking distributions, maintaining accurate records, and preparing trust accountings
- Legal Research: Conduct legal research on trust and estate matters, staying current on relevant laws, regulations, and case law to support attorneys in case preparation and strategy. Review and analyze Will and Trust provisions
- Meet with attorneys and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects. Serve as liaison between our firm, clients, advisors, and beneficiaries
- Communication: Directly communicate with clients to gather information, provide updates as needed, answer any questions during their estate planning process, and facilitate scheduling execution of documents. Directly communicate with financial advisors to gather information and provide status updates.
- Develop and maintain records regarding expenses and billable hours spent on specific matters.
- Maintain and organize matter files, documents, and correspondence.
- Monitor and track estate and trust administration developments and ensure timely updates to attorneys and clients.
- Work as a team with other law firm personnel to ensure all tasks and assignments have been completed.
- Prepare and file necessary deeds with the Register of Deeds office in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required; professional degree or certification preferred
- Experience in estates & trust with a law firm, accounting firm, or bank trust departments preferred but not required
- Proficiency with Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Adobe PDF, and Excel
- Proficiency with Google Suite based software i.e. Mail, Chat, and Share Drives
- Experience with Clio CRM is a plus
- Tennessee Notary is a plus
