Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs work to receive and disburse money which usually involves the use of cash registers and processing credit or debit card transactions and validating payments. Work is primarily performed at one of the Guilford County Parks.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class makes change, tracks, and records sales and otherwise provides customer service to facility patrons. Work includes greeting patrons and being able to adequately answer patron inquiries. At times this will require responding to irate and demanding patrons. Explaining rain check policy to patrons and issuing rain checks per policy guidelines. Employee will reference the pool operations manual as a guideline and reference to resolve work-related problems. Cash register, credit card machine, broom, dust pan and cleaning materials are examples of the tools and equipment most often used in the work. Some initiative and judgment are required, as are tact and courtesy in dealing with the public. Work is performed under established policies and procedures, although employees may develop and refine working practices for themselves to meet the needs of the department. The potential for error exists in making error with handling cash. Public contact is described as greeting public as they enter facility, and assisting them various customer service needs. Work is performed under regular supervision and progress is checked through review of reports.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties & Tasks
- Cleans countertops, dusts area, sweeps and cleans bathrooms to maintain facility.
- Greets patrons and answers questions, and provide information on procedures or policies.
- Calculates total payments received during a time period, and reconcile this with total sales.
- Records pool admissions.
- Computes and records totals of transactions
- Counts money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change.
- Identifies prices of goods sold and/or admission fee, and tabulate bills using calculators, and cash registers.
- Issues receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.
- Performs related duties as required.
RECRUITMENT STANDARDS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of the organization and functions of the department..
- Knowledge of town policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques to provide customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Knowledge of basic math and the ability to add, subtract, multiply, or divide quickly and correctly.
- Ability to communicate with the public tactfully and courteously.
- Ability to work without immediate and direct supervision.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).
Typical Qualifications
Less than high school graduation but sufficient to perform the assigned tasks and meet the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
