Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs professional and consultative work in planning and implementing a health education program in the Public Health Department.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Employees in this class develop, organize, and implement a health education program to help meet the particular needs of the community. Work includes developing educational programs, forming special committees and tasks forces, consulting with the private or other public sector agencies, serving as an instructor or media information sources, or coordinating activities with a variety of community resources. Considerable independence in performing the work, establishing work schedules, and making decisions on program activities are present in the positions. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-level community health education or program manager and is reviewed through conferences, reports, observation of program activities completed, and feedback from groups receiving the services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties and Tasks
- Advises and assists nurses, physicians, social workers, and other health care personnel in planning and implementing education components of the agency programs.
- Prepares, selects, assembles, and distributes health education and informational materials to agencies, schools. organizations, and other groups interested in health program and problems.
- Visits schools, community organizations, professional groups, and private organizations to share information, advise on particular program and health activities, and help in developing interest and participation in the health program.
- Provides consultative services to teachers, principals, day care centers, community organizations, private companies, and other public agencies on methods and means to implement and educate students, employees, or the public on a variety of health education topics.
- Serves as the media liaison and contact for a particular health program; prepares and releases feature stories to the public for informational and educational purposes.
- Plans, develops, and conducts workshops, sessions, and training opportunities for public groups.
- Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications : Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in health education; or graduation from a four-year college or university and completion of one year of on-the-job training (OJT) as a public health educator.
Preferred Qualifications : Bachelor's Degree in Public Health or related field OR 3-5 year's experience.
Trainee : Graduation from four-year college or university.
Assessment : If selected for an interview, you will need to create and prepare a 5-minute presentation on a perinatal health topic in presentation format (PowerPoint, Canva, etc.).

Driving is Essential
Driving is an essential requirement of this position whether driving a County owned or personal vehicle to conduct county business. Motor Vehicle Reports may be verified for valid driver's license and that the driving record is compatible with the county's driving criteria.
If a personal vehicle is operated for county business proper insurance is maintained as per Guilford County's vehicle use policy.
