GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Assist in the supervision of lifeguards and staff for the Guilford County park pools, ensure accurate pool usage records, and overall safety of the pool facilities.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The Pool Manager will assist in the supervision of the swimming facility at three Guilford County Park Pools. The Pool Manager will assist the Park Supervisor with maintaining records of pool usage, ensuring that all income and first aid activity are accurately recorded, and assists with managing lifeguards and pool attendant staff. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Parks Supervisor.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties & Tasks
- Provides supervision of daily operations and facility maintenance.
- Supervises and prepares work schedules for lifeguards and pool attendants.
- Supervises revenue collection of swim and concession fees, makes deposits, and completes reports.
- Supervises first aid procedures and record keeping.
- Monitors water quality, dispenses chemicals, monitors filtration strainers, pumps, and equipment.
- Supervises cleanliness of locker rooms, decks and concession areas.
- Provides public relations, security, and crowd control.
- Supervises pool operations.
- Orders concession supplies and operates concession stand.
- Oversees rentals.
- Provides assistance with in-service training for lifeguards.
- Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and County Safety Standards and Policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
RECRUITMENT STANDARDS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Aquatic safety principles, rules, regulations, and emergency action procedures.
- Proper use and maintenance of safety and rescue equipment.
- Methods and techniques of aquatic facility maintenance and operations.
- Policies for the County Parks department and pool facility.
- Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and safety regulations pertaining to aquatic and recreational facilities.
Ability to:
- Maintain a cooperative demeanor and positive attitude while working with the public.
- Must have strong managerial skills including the ability to supervise lifeguards.
- Must be able to work weekdays, weekends, holidays and evenings as necessary.
- Use good decision-making skills in all situations.
- Apply First Aid, CPR and AED skills, techniques and procedures effectively.
- Perform basic rescue techniques and emergency procedures learned in training.
- Respond with courtesy and tact to public concerns and complaints.
- Communicate and interact effectively with youth, adults, and senior citizens.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Enforce facility rules with firmness and tact.
- Work various shifts as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification or comparable
- Two years of practical lifeguarding experience
- Current CPR / AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification
- Current First Aid Certification
- One year of supervisory experience
Working Conditions and Physical Demands of Work
Work is primarily outside in uncontrolled climates with exposure to natural elements and high temperatures or hazardous conditions depending on where the employee is needed to work. Work is described as standing: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform preparing and analyzing data and figures, accounting, transcription, and data entry at computer terminal.
May Require Driving
This position may require driving for this position whether driving a County owned or personal vehicle to conduct county business such as but not limited to attending conferences, meetings, or any other county related functions. Motor Vehicle Reports may be verified for valid driver’s license and that the driving record is compatible with the county’s driving criteria.
If a personal vehicle is operated for county business proper insurance is maintained as per Guilford County’s vehicle use policy.
