The Center for Academic Engagement’s Academic Tutor Coordinator, Sciences & Mathematics provides academic discipline-specific leadership and management for tutoring centers at all campus locations of Guilford Technical Community College. The coordinator hires, on-boards, supervises, and evaluates tutors, coordinates center operations, and designs support for students in the sciences and field of mathematics. - Master’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited postsecondary institution.
- Five years of experience providing learning support and/or instruction in the field of science, mathematics, or related.
- Previous work experience in an educational setting.
- Experience developing and implementing instructional programming and supplemental instruction to promote skill acquisition.
- Experience hiring, training, and supervising employees, including conducting performance evaluations.
- Knowledge of pedagogy, andragogy, metacognition and tutorial best-practices.
- College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) tutor certification or the ability to attain it within one year of start date.
The Academic Tutor Coordinator, Sciences and Mathematics shall possess an understanding of and commitment to the nature and role of the Community College, particularly its “open door” policy. They shall have demonstrated personal and professional competence for the responsibilities assigned. The Academic Tutor Coordinator, Sciences and Mathematics must be able to:
- Ability to juggle multiple responsibilities and deadlines on an ongoing basis.
- Promote an inclusive, culturally responsive environment.
- Adapt to assessing and changing procedures, policies or protocols.
- Create and maintain a learner-centered environment.
- Adept in the use of Microsoft Office Suites and other software platforms simultaneously
- Skilled in working with students through in-person and virtual modalities including 1:1, small group, and larger event environments.
Departmental hours are 8am-5pm Monday through Friday. Remote work is not currently an option. Evening and weekend work required during heavy registration peak times; summer schedules vary.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule as determined by the supervisor to cover the necessary hours. Registration, graduation, and other heavy work periods will require additional hours.

- Other training may be required as determined applicable.
