The Teaching Assistant is responsible for providing instructional classroom support under the supervision of an Adult Education lead instructor. Work includes tutoring and leading small groups of students within the assigned class to provide targeted, contextualized instruction to help students improve reading, math, and/or English language skills. This person will report directly to an Adult Education Director. This person will also assist with documenting attendance, providing feedback on student work, lesson planning, recommendations for progress testing, student retention, and other duties as needed for the Adult Education programs.

Duties/Functions
- Use a variety of instructional techniques to meet students' learning needs with a goal of helping students achieve Measurable Skill Gains, such as Educational Functioning Level gains in reading, math, or language scores, or passing High School Equivalency assessments. Lead small group lessons based on the Adult Education content standards. Maintain a positive, learner-centered, and professional environment.
- Advise students regarding attendance, testing, educational and occupational goals, and individual plans for progress.
- Assist in collection, review, and evaluation of the accuracy and appropriateness of student data, outcomes, goals, etc., and report discrepancies or concerns to the lead instructor and/or Director.
- Follow and communicate the GTCC Code of Conduct and Adult Education policies and procedures. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching and classroom management skills.
- Demonstrate and model the College's employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork.

- Adult Education Lead Instructor, Administrative Assistant, Specialist Director, Dean and/or Associate Dean
- Associate degree or equivalent at a regionally accredited postsecondary institution
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field, or at least four years of related teaching experience.
- Experience providing instruction in an academic setting
- Experience providing instruction in Adult Education, working with English language learners, and/or working with students with disabilities
- The Teaching Assistant shall possess an understanding of and commitment to the nature and role of the Community College, particularly its "open door" policy.
