Role Description
This is a part-time hybrid role for a Project Estimator at Gulati Construction Company, Inc. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who takes initiative and is able to drive projects forward autonomously. The Project Estimator will be responsible for cost management, construction estimating, bid management, communication, project estimation, and budgeting. While the role is located in La Palma, CA, some work from home is acceptable.
Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead.
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, and project requirements to determine scope of work and calculate costs.
- Break down complex projects into smaller, manageable components and estimate costs for each phase or item.
- Review project plans and specifications to understand the scope of work and identify potential risks or cost-saving opportunities.
- Conduct site visits when necessary to assess the current conditions and make accurate estimations.
- Perform quantity takeoffs (calculating the material quantities required for the project) from blueprints or project documents.
- Prepare and submit competitive bids, ensuring that all estimates are complete and accurate with minimal supervision.
- Provide clarification and revisions to bid proposals as needed.
- Track costs during the course of the project to ensure that estimates align with actual expenses.
- Identify discrepancies between estimated and actual costs and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids, and any revisions.
- Prepare reports and presentations summarizing costs and project details for review by management or clients.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Project Estimator in the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction management principles and practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other relevant software for document management and cost estimation.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail for accurate cost estimation.
- Ability to negotiate effectively with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with construction site operations and safety regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or related field is preferred but not required.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with team members, subcontractors, and clients.
- Ability to work part-time hours, with flexibility depending on the workload.
- Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Knowledge of project management processes is a plus.
- Ability to understand project sequencing and collaborate with a scheduler to create a project schedule.
