Summary
The commercial underwriter/credit analyst I will perform a variety of duties to support the commercial lenders, board loan committee and board of directors in the determination of the customer’s credit worthiness. Will analyze current credit data and financial statements of individuals and/or firms to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money. Prepare reports with this credit information for use in decision-making. This will include both existing and new relationships, as well as, both commercial and real estate loans. Ensure compliance with loan policy and bank regulations. Responsible for the accuracy of the credit underwriting packages.
Location: This position is in-office in Metairie, LA
Responsibilities
- Ensures applications are accurate and complete.
- Analyze credit data and financial statements to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money.
- Generate financial ratios, using computer programs, to evaluate customers’ financial status.
- Prepare reports that include the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money.
- Complete credit analyses and summaries of loan requests and submit to the commercial lender.
- Compare liquidity, profitability, and credit histories of establishments being evaluated with those of similar establishments in the same industries and geographic locations.
- Investigate variances on applicant’s financial statements by requesting information from sources, researching development within the industry.
- Responsible for reviewing the credit underwriting packages for accuracy.
- Performs other duties and special projects as needed.
- Trains and backs-up others as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Skills/Experience/Education
- College degree in Finance or related fields.
- At least 12 hours of college accounting coursework preferred.
- Knowledge of Bank’s loan policy.
- Strong computer skills required.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills.
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Ability to assume responsibility and accountability for decision making preferred.
- Ability to perform multi tasks and meet deadlines.
- Reliable, accurate and detailed.
- Ability to work small office equipment.
Essential Mental & Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel if required to perform the essential job functions.
- Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines.
- Ability to read and interpret a document if required to perform the essential job functions.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer may be required.
- Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 15 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions. If the employee is unable to lift/move/carry this weight and can be accommodated without causing the department/division any “undue hardship” then the employee must be accommodated; hence omitting lifting/moving/carrying as a physical requirement.
