Summary
This position is responsible for safely and efficiently operating the Gulf Coast Bank & Trust Trolley, ensuring safe and timely transport of passengers. This involves picking up and dropping-off passengers at assigned stops and communicating the itinerary for the trolley service. Additionally, the driver represents the company at all times throughout the scheduled event and must possess great communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to provide an excellent level of customer services.
This position scheduling most closely resembles an as needed, part-time basis of employment. A typical trolley service is minimally 4 hours in duration and may be scheduled any day of the week between the hours of 8:00am and 8:00pm; however, hours may vary, and scheduling may occur before or after the typical hours of operation.
Responsibilities
- Operates a trolley along an assigned route, following the approved schedule, in a safe, timely and courteous manner, picking up and discharging passengers at assigned stops and other safe locations along the route.
- Represents Gulf Coast Bank & Trust in a positive, professional, and collaborative demeanor at all times with both staff members and customers.
- Assists passengers on and off the vehicle, if needed.
- Communicates arrival with Trolley Driver or sponsor/lead of event.
- Explains the Transit program to passengers, including schedule information.
- Observes all speed limits and traffic laws, practices defensive driving techniques.
- Contacts office during office hours (and driver supervisor after office hours) in the event of any problem that may significantly delay or change the schedule of operation for the Trolley services.
- Observes proper protocol during two-way radio communication.
- Adheres to company guidelines and uses sound judgement when reporting any incidents or accidents occurring to the vehicle or to any passenger.
- Conducts routine pre-and-post-trip safety inspections of the vehicle and completes a daily vehicle inspection report. Reports any actual or anticipated mechanical issues to the appropriate supervisor as soon as possible.
- Always maintains the assigned vehicle in a clean and safe manner.
- Obtains event schedule and instructions from Trolley Coordinator.
- Submits invoices and expense reports in accordance with company guidelines, maintaining proof of expenses for submission to Trolley Coordinator or the company’s expense management system.
- Performs an interior, exterior, and mechanical observation before and after all events and reports any new observations to the Trolley Coordinator.
- Must keep the Trolley locked and safe when not attended.
- Performs other duties related to this position, as required and directed by management due to business needs.
Requirements
Skills/Experience/Education
- Must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
- CDL Class C license with passenger endorsement, without air brake restriction.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in safely driving a shuttle with 10 passengers, preferred.
- Must be able to obtain and/or maintain a Brake certification (for repair).
- Must be able to obtain and/or maintain an Annual Medical Certification.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively handle complaints and problems.
- Calm demeanor with the ability to remain so in stressful circumstances.
- Must present a neat and clean appearance.
- Excellent time management skills are a requisite.
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language fluently.
- Possess prior knowledge of the service area or have the capacity to learn quickly.
- Must be able to pass the Federal DOT physical examination.
Essential Mental & Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for a minimum of eight hours per day.
- Occasional standing, walking, crouching, kneeling, pulling and pushing.
- Motor coordination, finger and manual dexterity required, eye, hand and foot coordination as well.
- Ability to remain mentally alert and maintain concentration for extended periods.
- Capacity to seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with hands to tum steering wheel and manipulate levers and controls.
- Capacity to use legs and torso to climb steps in bus, assist passengers when necessary and maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when working on slippery surfaces in adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 15 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions. If the employee is unable to lift/move/carry this weight and can be accommodated without causing the department/division any “undue hardship” then the employee must be accommodated; hence omitting lifting/moving/carrying as a physical requirement.
